Electronic Arts has confirmed that DICE's Battlefield 3 has shipped over 15 million units worldwide.
The figure was revealed during the firm's recent earnings call where the publisher highlighted the growth of the Battlefield series. The shooter has shipped 15 million units worldwide since its late October 2011 release and EA expects it to surpass the 18 million units shipped mark by the end of the fiscal year -- March 31, 2013.
EA CEO John Riccitiello stated that Battlefield 3 succeeded in acheiving its goal of taking market share from Activision's Call of Duty franchise:
"We did what we said we’d do with Battlefield. Battlefield 3 took [a] very significant share from the leading competitor on its way to being one of the biggest selling titles in EA history. There will be exciting new developments for the Battlefield brand as FY13 progresses."
During its launch week, the game sold over five million units. A month after its release, it sold more than eight million units, which was followed by the 10 million units sold milestone during February.
