Those counting on LAN support for Battlefield 3: we have some bad news for you. DICE general manager Karl Troedsson says they have no specific plans for it as of yet, and it won't be supported at launch (October 25). A bit of a downer for the e-sports community especially, however, he implies if fans demand it, they may put it in post-launch.
"We've definitely heard this feedback from the community. It will not be in the game when we ship it, but we'll see what we can do afterwards. For us, the shipping of Battlefield 3 is just the start; we're planning to take care of this product for a long period of time. We're going to polish and fix some features, add some features we that we believe are important, but we're also going to listen to what the community says. So we'll see."
"There are some technical challenges involved in that request, as well as some security ones, but we'll see. We are definitely considering it."
