We can use this thread to discuss Max Drives and X-Ports and the various features of them. Post any comments or questions you have here, please read my Beginners Guide before asking anything for the Max Drive and the information provided by
Nuggy for the X-Port.
Both can be bought for good prices at Play.com

Max Drive:With the max drive you get 2 discs, one which is for your PS2 and one which is a PC Software disc. You also get a USB stick which is used to transfer the files from your PC and your PS2. You do not have to have your PS2 online therefore and this USB stick fits into a slot at the front of your PS2 underneath where your controllers go.
Basically the basic steps are as follows:
1. Download file of a site like Neoseeker
2. Put .max file onto your Max Drive USB by putting the USB in its slot in the PC and basically copying and pasting but make sure you unlock the USB first, there is a little slide on the side of the USB to do this.
3. Take USB out of PC and place in PS2.
4. Put in the Max Drive disc for your PS2 (don't need the PC Software one once you have put the Software on the PC).
5. Once the disc loads up select the first option, "My Devices".
6. Select USB and then all the files on your USB will load up.
7. Select the one you want and uncrush to whatever memory card you want it to go to.
8. Play the game and it should just load up like a normal save.
The Max Drive USBThis is erm well, the USB you use.
The Two Discs You RecieveOne for PC and one for PS2
Main MenuThis is the Main Menu once the disc has loaded all you need to do basically is go on the first option, "My Devices". However you could select saves that are already put on it.
Select Device ScreenAll you so here is just go on the USB as that's where you want to view files not your memory card. However if you want to put saves onto your USB for storage or to transfer the save back over the internet then you would need to go on your Memory Card.
What is on your USBIt then shows you what is on your USB. Here, all I have is the Neo Option File I downloaded. To uncrush it, simply select one of the icons shown on the right on the screen.
X-Port:Right I haven't got an X-Port so I cannot answer any questions on them but here is some information provided by
Nuggy and I am sure he will help you if you have any problems.
An X-Port is a device which allows you to use your PC hard drive as one big PS2 Memory Card. Using USB ports on your PC and PS2 you can transfer save files to and from your memory card.
After installing the X-Port software on your PC place the X-Port console disc in your PS2 and load up it's program on the PS2. Then on your PC run the X-Port program you installed, here you can browse through your saves on your PC and on the Memory Card. To transfer a file to your Memory Card from your PC, tick the box of the file you want to send and then click on restore, a brief animation will start and then tell you when it's complete. To back up files from your Memory Card check the files you want to back up and then click back up.
Convertor:Remember Max Drive files will not work with X-Ports and Vice Versa. However there is a converter available to change the files, you can download it
here from our good friends at PESInsight.
Max Drive and X-Port installers:You can download the Max Drive Installer

You can also download the X-Port Installer

Nuggy's Q/A on X-Port & Max Drive
Q. What is an X-Port?A. An X-Port is a device which allows you to use your PC hard drive as one big PS2 Memory Card. Using USB ports on your PC and PS2 you can transfer save files to and from your memory card.
Q. What is a Max Drive?A. A Max Drive works in a similar way to the X-Port however it is the same as USB removable storage device, so it cuts out the cables and the need for the PC to be so close to the PS2. In a sense it's a fair bit simpler to use. Max Drive looks to be the way forward now.
Q. Why would this benefit my PES4 play?A. You'll be able to download a pre edited option file with corrected player names, correct club names, corrected kits, correct squads/formations, corrected appearances, imported kit badges and sponsors.
Q. Can you change things like advertising boards and get 100% accurate kits?A. No, this can only be achieved by patching the game. An X-Port will only allow you to edit what can be manually edited in the game. With the small addition of importing badges and hopefully sponsors via a PES Option File Editor on the PC.
Q. How does the X-Port work exactly?A.
Q. How does the Max Drive work exactly?A. Start off by installing the PC Software for the Max Drive. Once that is installed insert the Max Drive into a USB port and let your PC detect the hardware and then follow the on screen instructions to install it. This may very depending on operating systems, I have XP so that pretty much installs itself, for an earlier operating system I'm not sure of the process. Once the Max Drive is installed you should see it appear as a removable drive. Now all you need to do is locate your save on your computer's hard drive and drag and drop it there to put it on your Max Drive. Transferring to and from your PS2 Memory Card is done by loading the console disc up in your PS2 and plugging in your Max Drive to one of your PS2's USB ports. Then all you need to do is follow the simple on screen instructions.
Q. Where can I get an X-Port?A. You can find them at Amazon,
here for £16.99. However I would recommend getting a Max Drive now.
Q. Where can I get a Max Drive?A. Best price I have seen is at Play.com,
here for £9.99.
Q. Will X-Port files work on a Max Drive and visa versa? A. No. However there is a converter available, you can download it
here from our good friends at PESInsight.
Q. My PS2 can't read my Max Drive Disc as it's too small, what can I do?A.Believe it or not I had this problem, so it's possible some of you might have it. More likely to happen to old worn out PS2's I think. The way I understand it is that the disc is too small to be held in place by the pressure pad, so my solution was to stick the smaller disc to one of those clear discs you get when you buy a big pack of cdr's. I used some pritt stick and dabbed a bit on the Max Drive disc then pressed the bigger disc on top then put it in the drive and it worked. Probably very rare for this to happen to anyone, but there's a solution to the problem just in case.
Q. Can I download the X-Port or Max Drive installers?A. Yes you can download the X-Port installer
here and the Max Drive installer
here.
That should answer most questions, if you have some more questions then feel free to
neopm me
and I'll do my best to help.
