Looking at your overclocking results, and the inability to tighten timings lower than 16-17-17 for greater than 3000MHz data rate, I'm sure these sticks use Samsung ICs.

You are probably right, l will see if I can take one apart without messing it up to confirm this. SK hynix ICs seem to have better overclocking potential, if you have the time and know how lol. The Patriot Viper 4 is basically plug and play and you get 3000MHz at decent timings out of the box with no hassle

They are somewhat expensive... and the motherboards that support it are equally expensive, amazon lists them starting from 200 dollars and going upwards

They really aren't that expensive compared to other 4x4GB DDR4-3000MHz kits. As for the motherboard prices, currently only X99 supports DDR4 and Intel's HDET platforms always cost more than its mainstream offerings.
