[edit] Background

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an action-adventure game and is the 13th game in The Legend of Zelda series. It takes place several centuries after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask where a young Link works at a ranch.

When the village is attacked, Link encounters a wall of Twilight where he is pulled through into the Realm of Twilight and imprisoned. Link must escape the Realm of Twilight, save Zelda, defeat Ganondorf and save his world from the new threat.

The game was developed and published by Nintendo, it was first released in 2006 for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii. In 2016 a HD remastered version of the game was released for the Wii U.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay is focused on exploration and combat; it is played in a third person point of view which allows the player to control the camera and direct Link's movements at the same time.

Link is able to run, attack and will automatically jump when running towards a ledge; his main method of attack is his sword and shield. He also has access to some other secondary weapons which are mainly projectile based such as a bow, a boomerang and bombs. Projectile attacks can be aimed before throwing or thrown without aiming with the context-sensitive mechanic which is also used for other functions such as opening doors.

After entering the Twilight Realm, Link is able to transform into a wolf and later in the game he can transform into the wolf at any time. Wolf mode allows Link to fight using bites and defends by dodging enemy attacks, this mode makes his sword and shield unusable.

The game features nine dungeons where Link can also collect items and solve puzzles in; at the end of each dungeon is a boss fight which needs to be completed in order to progress the plot of the game. The dungeons can be reached on foot, by horse or by teleporting to them.

[edit] HD remake

The remake was titled The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and has some slight changes besides from the graphics overhaul. Most gameplay changes have been to port the game for use with the Wii U gamepad such as allowing the touchscreen to display a map of the current area.

A Wolf Link Amiibo figurine can also be used with the game to access a new challenge dungeons called the “Cave of Shadows”. This area restricts Link to his wolf form and more areas of this dungeon can be unlocked by playing the main game.

In addition to the new dungeon, there is also a new difficulty mode called “Hero Mode” which is a higher difficulty level.
