WWE WrestleMania X8 review
WWE Wrestlemania X8
Great graphics and authentic music - the greatest wrestling game ever. The bad:
Almost completely lacking in atmosphere, not up-to-date at all, and fiddly controls.Summary:
Before I get this review underway, I'd like to give an unexpected comment - I'm not a wrestling fan. I have no hate for the program or the franchise, I simply don't watch it.
The copy I reviewed of this game was on rental, so you'll forgive me for not being so thourgh. I rented it because I wanted a decent four-player beat 'em up - and I had finished with Super Smash Bros. Melee. I had reservations - I felt that the Smackdown games were absolutely awful, but I gave it a go anyway.
It turned out to be better than I hoped, quite good in fact. There were some moments that had some real humour in them. Taking the game seriously is boring, multiplayer though is just a riot. I won't describe it - it'd ruin it for you, but the multiplayer's great fun.
There's not much to describe about the game. This is because its all been donne before in Smackdown and No Mercy on the N64. The factor that makes X8 stand out though, is the way that it just does everything right. You will find hardly any hitches throughout, its predictable, but you get what you pay for.
There are still control issues, but that's only to be expected, if you're a Wrestling fan, then this game will not dissapoint. Nothing special, but consistantly good throughout.
