Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a third-person action-adventure game, with special attention paid to the shooting and platforming aspects of the genre. The game offers the chance to use a number of weapons, and there is also the ability for players to engage in hand-to-hand (melee) combat with any enemies they encounter.
- A story written by John Garvin, who wrote the screenplay for the 2011 action film "Sanctum", that delves into Nathan Drake's life before the events of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
- An optional control scheme, allowing players to either utilise the PlayStation Vita's unique touchscreen and motion-based controls, or a more conventional control scheme that uses the Vita's buttons and dual-analog sticks.
