Tropico review
Tropico Troubles Foil Fun

The good:

Tropico seems to have some significant entertainment value- if you can get past the bugs.

The bad:

The bugs are just too pervasive

Summary:

Here's the recipe for killing the fun in a new game:

Start with a VXD error screen (requires patch 1.03 to fix) at the initial install. Add repeated unexplained drop outs during game play. Stir in a kludged user interface (not always user friendly), a load and save problem, and some sometimes quirky graphics and you have a product which should have spent about another six weeks in development. Its name- Tropico.

Tropico has a lot going for it...after all, who wouldn't want to be dictator of his or her own little island paradise. The concept loses a lot in the implementation, however. After trying, unsuccessfully,
to get this program to run on my lowly Dell PIII (1 G processor and all kinds of goodies-making it way overpowered for the application), my level of frustration way exceeded any entertainment value this game would have.
