Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a third person shooter set in the Ghost Recon series, the game takes place in the future and focuses on two different four person teams. The first team has been sent to Nicaragua to stop weapons trafficking and the other is dealing with a bomb; the two teams connect as their missions overlap on their travels around the world.
The game was developed and published by Ubisoft in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and for Windows PC.
While the majority of the game is in third person, aiming down the sights of a gun will cause the game to switch to a first person camera. Players can customize their weapons through the Gunsmith and can also test out their modified weapons at the firing range before starting a new mission; there are different ways to customize the guns and players can add different attachments to their weapons such as scopes and magazines. Not all attachments are available to the player immediately and some need to be unlocked by completing missions and achievements for the single player or by earning credits for the multiplayer.
Combat is the main aspect of the game, the player controls the main character and the computer controls the other ally squad members however the player can direct their attacks by marking up to four enemies for them to focus on during firefights. It is also possible to set up simultaneous takedowns using the Sync Shot feature where up to four enemies can be taken down at the same time.
As stealth can be an option, there is also a cover system where the player can hide behind cover however some areas of cover can be destroyed by gunfire or explosions. There is also an active camouflage system where the player is partially invisible when they are not moving or are moving very slowly. The player has access to a drone which can be launched into the sky and controlled remotely, they allow the player to view enemy positions and can be accessed in the sky at any time; if the drone is spotted by the enemy then they will shoot it down. The drone is not limited to the sky and can travel on the ground where it has more abilities, on the ground it uses an active camouflage and can also disorientate enemies with a sonic blast.
The multiplayer of the game features a co-op campaign mode and a co-op wave-survival mode where up to four players must fend off the oncoming waves of enemies. In addition to this, there are also competitive multiplayer modes which are mostly team based and comprised of classic shooter game modes such as team deathmatch and objective based modes.
Online multiplayer has three classes: Engineer, Rifleman and Scout. Each of them have their own role on the battlefield and are weaker in other areas. There are 10 unique maps for the multiplayer and several more are available in purchasable DLC.
