[edit] Background

The Urbz: Sims in the City is a game from The Sims series. Unlike other games in the series, this is the only game where the Sims live in the city of Urbzville. The city is split into nine districts which have their own style and each area contains Sim residents that are unique to the area.

The plot is different for the console and handheld versions however, the player is new to the city in each version and must earn “rep” with the other Sims in the city in order to progress through the districts.

It was developed by Maxis and Griptonite Games for the Game Cube Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation 2, Gameboy Advanced and Nintendo DS. The game was published by EA in 2004.

[edit] Gameplay

Like with other Sims games, the player must ensure their needs are met by eating regularly and fulfilling their other needs; rep is gained by interacting with other Urbz, it is used to measure the popularity of the player character. Money is gained by working at various jobs, each district has their own jobs and the job is dictated by the players skill. Skill can be raised by playing mini-games and money is used to pay for rent however it can also be used to purchase items for the apartment.

The player can also unlock a pet animal which they will need to take care of and clean up after; animals can be instructed to follow the player. Building Rep allows the player to get into clubs, form relationships with new Urbz and ultimately, move into better areas of the city. Money is still required to purchase apartments in new areas however and the main method of earning money is by having a job, it is possible to master a job which will provide more money.

Forming friendships with the residents is important; having a strong relationship will allow the player to travel between districts and will earn them powersocials which are used to be more aggressive to some characters. Some of the characters will ask for help or require the player to do something in order to be friends with them, in addition to this there are 'bad' characters such as a thief who will steal from the apartment.
