Half-Assed in a Half Shell

Summary:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or Hero Turtles for us in Europe). What an odd idea to mix amphibians with ninja skills and set them loose against legions of foot soldiers and some really weird hybrid baddies. It caught on though, so it should come as no surprise that the video game publishers would catch on and start getting the licences to produce related games. This is an early effort on the NES, but be forewarned that this does no favours to the whole 'license tie-ins are bad' view.

Not quite Cowabunga-worthy

The good:

Good variety of gameplay. All 4 turtles are playable.

The bad:

Poor graphics & sound. Not as much action as you might expect. No multiplayer options.

Summary:

The first TMNT NES game was nothing like it's arcade counterpart, despite being released after the arcade game made the rounds. In this game, you controlled the turtles through several large stages, mainly through such environments as sewers and rooftops, and also driving around in the turtles' signature ride, the Party Wagon, on missions to save April & Splinter from arch-rival Shredder and rid the city of the evil too.
