 Game Play
The Tearaway games have strong emphasis on environmental interaction and is also a third person game. The player must take the protagonist through the paper based environments by grabbing, jumping and rolling. There are also side-quests which the player can optionally complete
Both versions have almost identical gameplay with some small differences to adjust the game for each platform.
At the start of the game the player can customize their character; the male version is called Iota and the female version is Atoi. During the beginning the player can only change a few features however later in the game the player can fully customize their character.
Tearaway is based around the player interacting with the environment; the Playstation Vita version uses the touch pad and the microphone which players must blow into in order to summon gusts of wind. Progressing through the game often requires the player to modify the landscape somehow so that new paths can be open; the player is given tools to help them with the puzzles such an item that acts as a vacuum cleaner and a leaf blower in one which is used to move objects and beat enemies. The player can also draw on the PS Vita touchpad and these designs will be added to the game; the Playstation Vita camera is also used to input real world texture and colours.
For the Playstation 4 version of the game, adjustments were made so that Tearaway Unfolded was better suited for the Playstation 4 DualShock 4 controllers; touch-based elements from the original have been modified for use on the Playstation 4 controller and the creation aspects of the game are now done through the DualShock 4 controller. Drawings can also be input through the PlayStation Camera and the Playstation App which also add real world texture and colours into the game. The DualShock 4 controller lightbar can also be used in the game to brighten areas and discover additional platforms to help with puzzles and the inbuilt gyroscope of the DualShock 4 can also be used to manipulate platforms for the Messenger to travel over.
