Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the sequel to the 2007 action adventure game originally released for the Wii. Mario and Luigi teams up with their dinosaur partner Yoshi to tackle a new series of 3D platforming stages in the form of planets in varying shapes and sizes. From Starship Mario, players will travel to several galaxies with their own planets to explore.
Mario controls much as he did in the previous title, based on Super Mario 64's control scheme complete with somersaults and spins. The Wiimote can be used to trigger certain objects from afar if used. The Wii U digital rerelease of the game also supports the console's GamePad.
The game features local cooperative multiplayer where the second player becomes a Co-Star Luma capable of helping the first player stun and defeat enemies, pick up coins and powerups, and activate switches and checkpoints. When Mario or Luigi find a Yoshi egg, they can hatch it and hitch a ride on their dinosaur friend who can new powers by eating certain items.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 features a total of 242 Stars for players to collect, unlocking a cameo appearance from an old friend from the first game.
