It's not Neverwinter Nights, people

Summary:

Considering the developer and its reputation, I was actually excited for Sonic Chronicles. When it came out, only one prediction of mine was 100% on the mark - Bioware will make an RPG based on Sonic. That's it. Unfortunately, it turned out differently from what I expected. Instead of something like Neverwinter Nights with Sonic characters, they went for Super Mario RPG. Christ, this is Bioware we're on about, not frigging Square! But I'm not here to whine about why Bioware decided to copy Square. I'm here to... what else but give an honest opinion on a disappointing RPG? Sonic could work w...

Sonic Chronicles - A Blaqk Perspective

The good:

There's a lot of variety within the game, the opponents you face are never quite the same, some extremely different and some are variations of others.
You have to use your sense to defeat the enemies as a lot are hard to defeat (the Kron being a great example) and the lands and planets are very unique and fun to explore.
I love especially that you can play any character you want as well.

The bad:

I would have liked to have been able to use the controls on my DS as well as the touch screen because after a while it got a bit repetitive.
The music is downright annoying, yes it differs slightly from area to area but it could have a bit more variety. And the DS is hardly an old console is it? And I have heard similar if not better music from my Game Boy Colour!

Summary:

Sonic Chronicles has what you really need, the speed found in the Sonic games we all know and love, yet you have the ability to go at your own place if you are a little slower.

There's no issues that your favorite Sonic character isn't in it, and that the enemies are not varied enough for you, there is a wide variety in both category's, so that you don't get a sense of monotony.
However when it came to not being able to use the DS controls it annoyed me slightly, I am not used to constantly using the touch screen, and really shouldn't have too, especially through the dialogue when I am used ...

Lets take one of the fastest characters and put him in the slowest genre

The good:

  • Highly interactive game play
  • Traditional RPG elements
  • Compelling story line
  • Chao Garden

The bad:

  • Excessive use of the touch screen
  • Music sounds like it was created on a cell phone
  • Minimal character introduction and story

Summary:

When I first heard that BioWare was going to create a Sonic RPG, naturally like other gamers, I was enthralled! Upon seeing the first screenshots - I was still very excited.Once I picked it up and began playing it however - some of my excitement turned to disappointment.

The first and foremost thing I noticed was the pure fact that the D-Pad has almost no use whatsoever! Yes, you heard me right. From walking on the map, to selecting battle commands and targets, to browsing through in game menus. The D-Pad has no use. Everything is controlled purely by the touch screen.

Then I noticed that I c...

Sonic Chronicles; A poor man's Super Mario RPG.

Summary:

Twelve years ago, Nintendo plucked their platforming mascot from the comfort of his enemy-bouncing lifestyle and shoe-horned him into a turn-based world, where enemies graciously allowed him to attack them as he pleased under the strict assumption he'd allow them the same courtesies later. In spite of all logic, Super Mario RPG was a marvelous game that showed the Mario franchise was more flexible than many people gave it credit for. Warp forward to 2008, and the only surprise is that it's taken SEGA this long to try outright aping Nintendo's greatest RPG success. Sonic Chronicles is Biowar...
