Sonic CD User Reviews
Sweet fast-paced gameplay; includes some innovation like psuedo-3D graphics and the like; looks very impressive; controls quite well; story is fairly good by Sonic standards. The bad:
Feels pretty short; a little too easy by my standards; story feels a bit cliched (not that bad in 1993 though).Summary:
Sonic CD is a classic game that managed to prove that the Sega CD not only has a soul, but also manage to produce such a fantastic game out of it. It's the fifth effort (or sixth effort - not sure if this came before or after Sonic 3D Blast for the Genesis) from Sega to keep the Sonic series going strong. Thankfully, unlike 3D Blast (which is an ungodly piece of shit), this game is fun to play and looks like there was effort put into the entirety of it, not just the graphics.
There were a few games on the Sega CD that didn't completely suck, and this is one of them. Actually, it...
Has good worlds to explore just like its SEGA Genesis cousin.
Storyline is very well setup.
Soundtrack is awesome... I even have it on my MP3 player!
Some areas can be slightly disorienting.
Doesn't work on a Windows 2k/XP based machine.
Sonic CD is a game that is very much like the original Sonic game for the Genesis. It has captivated my game loving self! It has good elements of game-play and can be exciting for all ages whether you are 6 or 96. Nintendo has tried falsely to make Sonic look like a complete wimp in the gaming industry but they have failed miserably. This version of Sonic gives the best of the SEGA Genisis world to PC users like me. A very bold move indeed since SEGA, at the time, was trying to promote their own console technologies.
Ok... a handful of the levels in this game are somewhat flaky at best ...
Good graphics for a Sonic game, nice new moves, traveling through time, that's cool, being capable of changing your own destiny, symbolic. Some new and fresh idea's, good music, but not superior to the Japanese version. Replay value is nice. An ok save feature. Some level designs were neat. The bad:
The game over teasing is just wrong and mean. It took me only 4 hours to beat the game. Somewhat depressing when I got bad futures the first time I played. Some of the bosses looked sort of lame. Some of the level obstacles didn't agree with Sonic's speed.Summary:
Alright, let me break it down for you. This, wasn't the Sonic game that could give me that fresh new feeling of a brand spaken new way of playing Sonic. Don't get me wrong, it had some new and cool features for me, the whole going into the levels past and future thing was nice, but it didn't excite me like I thought it would. It's graphics were great, I loved how they gave certain area's some 3D volume. If you didn't get good futures the game becomes depressing and sad, and it almost just scares you into getting every good future. The game over is just terrible, other then the horrific musi...
