The Sims 2 review
From the Bowery: The Sims 2

Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 9/10
Gameplay: 8/10
Value and Longevity: 7/10
Tilt of Mars: 8/10
Grade: B-

A sequel to one of the most addictive games ever created, The Sims 2 looks to improve on its predecessor in every way it can. Well, it does for the most part except for the key components of longevity and the number of items you can purchase (which ought to be fixed by upcoming expansions).

The graphics are a solid improvement from the original Sims, which is to be expected from a computer game released almost 5 years after the original version. You can move the camera in all directions around the 3D models, and all of the images look sharp in the game (if your computer can handle it). There is a bit of slowdown going into community lots, which is a bit of a letdown, but that's one of the few graphical problems there are.

The sound is great and probably the best part of the game... for me at least. Simlish is back and has more vocabulary than ever! The music is also exceptional. I found myself just tuning into the metal station and sitting back and jamming away, hahaha. If that isn't your thing, you can also upload your music files into the game folders to play your own music in the Sims 2.

The gameplay is rather addictive and is the main draw to the phenomenon that is the Sims. You make a family, you control their entire lives, their careers, their loves, their families, their possessions, and you continue on for generations to come (unless you use the aging off cheat of course, heh heh). This is where the problem comes in...

Longevity isn't all that long for gamers who get bored with the same material after time. There are those who can continue to set their own goals in the game and can continue playing on and on. I can do that for a little while, but I still get bored with it as I do with most other games, but I can come back to this one quickly when I have time.

I tilt the game in a favor since I wound up buying it only a couple days after its release, and played the game a heck of a lot for the first week or so. Since then I've had to find reasons to continue forward and play the game over other titles that I don't have much time to play. Overall, a fun game for most, a repetitve one for the rest.
