Silent Hill: Shattered Memories User Reviews
New fresh game style, music, new story line (kinda), new puzzle system, controlsThe bad:
new game style, no combat/not action oriented.Summary:
The story set up is based off the original Silent Hill from the PS1 with things like character and the driving plot, but includes a lot of fresh elements making it its own game. The game uses a new nightmare setting turning everything into ice and has Silent Hill set in a snowy setting. The combat system has been replaced with a more suspenseful escape system. The music is marvelous and nail biting.
Even though the game uses similar characters, shattered memories creates a new overarching story. The story also has a system of analyzing your actions of the game with specific endings whic...
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is not a sequel to the Silent Hill series, nor is it a prequel. In fact the only thing you could associate this Silent Hill with any of the other games in the series are the character names from the first game released in 1999. Shattered Memories is a re-imagining developed by Climax Studios, the same company that created Silent Hill Origins for PSP and PS2. Now don't confuse this with a re-make, the game is not a re-make. Not associating this game with any of it's predecessors the first step to enjoying it.

Instead of being a new story it is a Sequel to 1 and 3, the ending was a real surprise. The icy atmosphere is really frightening, especially at first when you get to see it change into the nightmare world. I quite enjoyed taking the pictures to destroy the statues blocking the door. The puzzles are fun and involving, and the paranormal photographs are really fun to find, the stories attached are interesting to read as well. The shadows running down the halls of the high school gave me quite a scare, and the tv in the lab turning on by itself scared me because I thought there was a monster or something in the room, as it sounds like the crackling of the radio. Being able to call numbers on the cell phone was funny and interesting as to what numbers you call can affect the ending you receive. The endings are sad and really drag you in and make you wanna cry. The graphics are much better then previous games. The psychiatry tests were fun and of course effect the ending. Something I found really funny, was Harry's comments when focusing the camera on certain objects, for example the mannequin with the bra underneath the jacket. The plot is really good, it had me fooled as to who was telling the story. I didn't bother to get any ending, but if your a Silent Hill fan, the multiple ending factor may keep you hooked. The bad:
The make over of some characters was in part a bad idea, They changed Cheryl and Cybil too much. I liked Cybil's first concept art much better then the final look. The lack of combat was a bad choice in my opinion, I didn't mind not having to fight the monsters, but I had a difficult time throwing them off with the Wii-mote. The problem with the puzzle where you have to run around in the nightmare world taking the pictures is that the monsters still pursue you, which makes it difficult to stop and take a picture without being attacked. Some puzzles need more hints then given or not given. Although it has a good plot, it doesn't make up for the lack of combat. The Wii controls really get you in the game, but your arms tend to get sore with all the swinging involved. It needs a more effective way of fighting off the monsters, even if its just a melee weapon, like a plank of wood or something useful. The monsters have different looks in each nightmare area, but you don't get to truly appreciative the graphics used in the game because you have to run for your life.Summary:
If you are considering getting this game, I'd suggesting waiting for the PS2 or PSP releases unless your really good at the Wii controls for fighting off the monsters. The story line gets you involved and personally I loved that. The monsters and "combat" system needs some tweaks. It bothered me how they pursue you even if you get a good distance away from them. I found puzzles a little difficult as the map isn't detailed enough, ex. It took me longer then it should have to get through the school because I couldn't figured out how to get to the gym. The principal's office was a fun puzzle, ...
