From the drug house to the White House, the Saints Row franchise has taken a turn that looks up to the stars.
Set five years after the events of Saints Row: The Third, the leader of the Third Street Saints is now the President of the United States, with other members of the Third Street Saints serving on the President's Cabinet. An alien invasion from the Zin empire has arrived with the alien warlord, Zinyak, in comand of the invading forces; he forces the cabinet members and the President into a computer simulation. They must escape to save the world and require the help of a computer hacking specialist and also, using the brand new Superhuman powers.
It was developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC in 2013. It was later ported to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and also for Linux PC in 2015.
The classic gameplay of the Saints Row franchise is available here; the game is set in an open world and is a third-person shooter. There are a mix of primary and secondary quests for the player to complete and also a number of collectibles for them to find.
Players are able to steal, drive and customize vehicles to make them more unique; it is also possible to purchase new clothing and to upgrade the physical look for the character. At the start of the game, the player is able to create their own character using a range of options to create a serious character or one that suits the comedic nature of the Saints Row franchise. It is also possible to purchase weapons and upgrades which are designed to be either offensive or defensive allowing the player to play however they choose.
Superhuman powers are a new addition to the game which add a range of new combat possibilities to the game. The player has elemental based powers and also some psychic abilities along with increased physical abilities. It is possible to jump to great heights, run at super speeds in order to outrun vehicles and also hope over buildings. The elemental powers allows the player to shoot fire and ice from their hands and also create shockwaves from jump impacts. Telekinesis allows the player to move objects and throw them around the map.
The abilities and weapons available to the player can be upgraded in the skill tree by collecting Data Clusters which are spread across the town. The town is also split into different districts which can be liberated from the aliens by completing side missions in the occupied areas; liberating districts will increase the players income.
