The lamentations of the enemies' women continue to reverberate throughout the Halls of Vaporaction, as Funcom points out that Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has attracted over 700,000 subscribers since its retail launch in late May. The publisher previously announced a shipment milestone of one million units for the title earlier this month, so it would seem that actual sales is mostly keeping pace with available stock. It's certainly the best selling PC game title in the U.S. as far as the NPD Group has tracked June 2008's PC game sales, until the Spore Creature Creator went online anyways.

"That Age of Conan remains #1 in retail stores several weeks after release is of incredible importance to us, and proves that the game has a large potential beyond the early adopters," said Morten Larssen, VP of Sales & Marketing in Funcom. "With more than 700.000 accounts created so far we have a fantastic platform to build from, and we will continue our marketing spend to further drive numbers in the months to come. Funcom boasts that Age of Conan is bested only by World of Warcraft in the race for top subscription-based MMORPG. It's certainly earned its following, assuming said players have got performance issues of the game on their rigs under check with recent updates providing things like official, advanced tweaking options for once! In any case, the publisher is committed to retaining momentum for the game, with multiple upgrades in the pipeline to tweak and enhance play.
