Call of Duty 5 anyone?
Kevin Spiess - Friday, May 9th, 2008 | 10:58AM (PT)

Seems like its going to be available on -6- gaming systems

Call of Duty 5 anyone? Image 1

Call of Duty 4 was one of the biggest games of the year, so hardly anyone should be surprised that the work for Call of Duty 5 is already underway.

Some scant details were revealed in a conference call with some Activision investor-types yesterday. One noteworthy detail that emerged was the franchise is coming back to the PS2 and the Wii, in addition to the 360,PS3, PC and DS versions.

Call of Duty 5 will also take place in a brand new military theater -- rumors hint that the game might go back to the days of World War II.

Update: Word on the street is that Call of Duty 5 is actually already playable, and is going through quality assurance as I type this.

They aren't Rumors, Kev, Treyarch is making the game, that means WWII.

Though it would appear we get to play as the Japs, or Possibly both the US and Japs...I dunno.

"Japanese", not "Japs" >_>

In any case, IMO, having any game on too many systems is a bad thing....Means the game is likely going to be diluted (re: crap)....

Unless they aren't ports. It wouldn't be that bad if they were made from the ground up on each system.

I hope Treyarch can redeem themselves after what they did with CoD3, that game awful compared to the others.

Not just f@##*& five hours of gaming in single-player mode!!!!

I heard about CoD5 a while ago, and a few people just scratched their heads over it because CoD4 already takes a step away from WWII into the future of war...

... which means it's back to WWII. Yahtzee (Zero Punctuation) is right, Americans do seem to enjoy dwelling on this era that the rest of the world would like to forget.

I'm just not interested in World War video games, personally.

Which front of World War 2, though? That'll be a big factor in who's playable.

The merger already detailed that COD would be getting yearly treatments. As COD3 completed they started on COD5, as COD2 completed they started on COD4 now it breaks down like this basically.

Every odd title will be a Treyarch release
Every even title will be a Infinity Ward release.

So COD6 is already in development and soon COD7 will go into early development. x_x talk about churning out a series until there's no credibility left to the name.

It will probably be bad. EVERY SINGLE game I have played that was this much "multi-plat" turned out to be garbage.

Ok. I knew this was coming because of game informer and egm. These rumors are probably true; Treyarch is going back to the tired formula of WWII. I agree with trust in the fact that multi platform usually means make a crappy game and still get lots of $, and I also agree with Gussimotto that COD 3 was definantly lacking. This should be a time for Treyarch to redeem themselves, and I have a good idea as to how they can turn the over used WW2 setting into something unique-
the level of custimization I saw in COD 4. You could customize the guns and your character to your liking. I know that WW2 didnt have all the guns that we have now, so using the gun can upgrade the stats. but maybe depending on how you use the gun is how it upgrades. Example: if you like going all up clos and personal and thats how you use you gun, it gets more powerful and accurate at close range.

This would allow a unique kind of customization that would have that same addictiveness of COD 4.

Some how, I wouldn't mind a COD set in Vietnam...I actually think that could prove to be a seriously fast paced game. Considering the Nature of the conflict in the first place.

I hope there is going to be naval combat- as in battles won't just have to be on land, like the "Pacific theatre" of WWII. Imagine flying around in airplanes, or shooting down planes from ships with giant machine guns, and eventually the Japanese kamikaze. Ooo Ooo or even the amphibious invasions. Hell, I'd even like to fight in Africa against the Desert fox. Hopefully Treyarch will be a bit more innovative with the WWII combat and settings.
