Frag Dolls get into Guinness by playing a FPS for 24 hours straight
Kevin Spiess - Friday, April 11th, 2008 | 11:11AM (PT)

Apparently the record is only 24 hours

Frag Dolls get into Guinness by playing a FPS for 24 hours straight Image 1

After reviewing official footage, Guinness World Records announced today that three Frag Dolls have gotten into the book of World Records.  The Frag Dolls will take the record for 'Longest continuous play of a single FPS.' The game played was Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and the Frag Dolls extraordinare were Kitt, Sarin, and Jam.

If you are scratching your head at this point, the Frag Dolls are a team of gamer girls based in the France, the US and the UK, that are sponsored by Ubisoft.  They compete in gaming competitions and endeavor to raise the profile of girls and women in gaming. They also tend to have agreeable appearances as well.

The UK Frag Dolls capped terrorists for 24 hours not only for Guinness Glory, but to raise money for breast cancer research. They played on Xbox Live, and solicited donations from the public for their worthy cause. Frag Doll Kitt (pictured above) had this to say: "I can't believe I'm a world record breaker! I'm brimming with pride that we've achieved this. I'd like to thank everyone who supported us, playing with us on Live and donating to Breakthrough Breast Cancer."

So, for you hardcore gamers out there, 24 hours seems to be the record to beat now. I think I've must have gone at least 14 hours without even trying so I'm sure some of you out there can set your sights on this record to break.

This is kinda funny. I am surprised the record was only 24 hours, though. I have sat and played for 12 straight, easy. Maybe I should go two days.

I'm not sure, but I think the Record was invented for this occasion. And not to say anything bad at all about what the Frag Dolls girl did -- that's great that they raised some dosh for breast cancer research -- but I'm guessing you couldn't throw a stone at a LAN party without hitting someone who could break 24 hours if it meant getting into Guinness. The next record will probably be like 72 hours at least, I'd guess.

more than likly this record will be broken shortly. nothing agaisnt the Frag Dolls but knowing how some people love their FPS games that record won't hold a week. proably hasn't because people rarely time how long they play games. I myself want to know what the record is for playing an RPG is and break it myself. Then have it broken by a person in japan shortly their after.

Depends on the rules of the situation, if the server has to be populated the entire time or if they're allowed to browse. Either way if someone beats it I'd hope they'd do the same and show that gamers can help support research and charities as well. Seems that the mass media generally only gives FPS players bad press these days.

The 72hour thing is iffy, you have people dying at 74-76 hours on MMO's. Depends how they run the show for the record taking, I'm sure it also involves medical monitoring as well or it may prohibit things like your average energy drink.

Well if no energy drinks or caffeine are allowed, than that'd be completely different. Just figured that that stuff would be in. 72 would be very difficult, but out of the millions of FPS players, I could imagine there'd be some people up for it.

There is now a video on the event up on the Frag Dolls site:

Just seems like if they monitor enhancers for everything else, they'd monitor the use of energy drinks or caffeine as well in the process. It also makes it more interesting on their end because people can run hard but things escalate by the 20th hour. Although I do know a few insomniacs that would be up for it.

I could see the Guinness people not allowing energy drinks. Otherwise things could get dangerous!

Veg. People do not DIE at those lengths without sleep, what happens is your brain shuts you down without asking. Death happens when the brain has been active for periods beyond four days. So three days would be pushing it, some may need sleep more than others, so they may end up being passed out before the limit. But death is not going to happen at three days without sleep.

You do understand that the Human body is slightly more able to deal with lack of sleep than this, yes? I would be wiling to bet that he ended up dead because of the amount of Caffeine he ingested, lack of medication, or if he was an addict, Increased heart rate, etc. Though sleep deprivation is not a big cause in death. It also mentioned he was dehydrated. Also, exhaustion can be caused my muscle strain, like tensing when something is happening, even sitting for prolonged periods, like on a no backed stool. Can cause fatigue, also lack of food and dehydration cause fatigue. So really, there is no proof it was lack of sleep that killed him. Also, as I mentioned before, at a certain point, the brain will shut off the body and repair the damage. SO, unless he passed out, it was NOT lack of sleep that had anything to do with it.

lol right so because he didn't follow your formula he's a caffeine junkie on drugs with a bad heart. Maybe you can just throw down some more things. Why not actually look up the news around gaming endurance deaths maybe not in your local hometown and instead around the world. oh my whats this a ton of reports.

It's one example out of a growing number of related deaths. Unless you're going to make excuses for every single report then I'd say that you're not really in a position at all as a professional to say what's going on in their body and what can happpen. Unless you're doing lab tests with a battery of subjects which I doubt.

Try to use a global perspective instead. I mean it might be hard, but it would benefit you.

Did I SAY he was an Caffeine addict? Nope. Did i SAY he was on drugs? Nope. Did I SAY he had a bad heart? Nope.

GG. Nothing like twisting words around man.

Also, I happen to know for a fact that science has 'proven' [Usually meaning they have mountains of evidence on it] That the body will not allow itself to be pushed to such extremes, so that it causes death. So seriously, drop the vendetta, Gabriel, It just doesn't fit you.

"I would be wiling to bet that he ended up dead because of the amount of Caffeine he ingested, lack of medication, or if he was an addict, Increased heart rate, etc."

So you wont take your own bet. GG you fail again. If your memory is this slow at your age Joesph just get help.

I have no vendetta, I just don't tolerate people playing their own assumptions and false generalizations out as fact. Go bring up your mountains of evidence against the many deaths that have occurred and I'll give it a look. Until you bring those mountains your statements are hollow at best. Remember, mountains, not 1 piece, credibility, not a local newspaper, research, not a general poll.

Ok there Joesph?

Feel free to eat your hat in the meantime.

Btw: nice failure in dropping a first name, if you actually had ground to work with then you could pretend you were on a hill and try to talk down to everyone, instead you just like to do it regardless and pretend other members are below you by making 1940's sexist jokes and failing to show evidence of your claims.

I guess I'm just saying, until you earn some reputable background by backing up your points with evidence that works and can be trusted constantly, try to avoid standing on a podium pretending you're actually an authority on something.

Ah, 'officially' the record stands at 24 hours. Unofficially, even without energy drinks (or caffeine of any sort), I'm sure someone already has beaten it, or rather, had already hit that point AGES ago.

Similar thing with people who play RPGs, ESPECIALLY WoWers.

Hell, even I could beat it, and I'm just your average person....I'd be tired as hell, and probably will have a headache (not to mention wake up with one), but I could wrangle it....I have stayed up (and I'm sure almost everyone at some point has too) for more than 24 hours. Just sub in 'Gaming' for whatever I was doing that day (or those days)...

Heck, the average person is awake for what? 15 to 16 hours already anyway?

In short order (whatever amount of time it takes to go through the official channels, and get everything arranged), you'll see someone, or a group of someones, beat that record by at least a few hours >_>

Doesn't Guinness normally not accept records that are about excess, like that (unhealthy things, like 'most cigarettes smoking in a mouth at one time), anymore?

Good job for Frag Dolls though. More of a publicity stunt though, but I'm sure they feel proud, and they should. If nothing else, they raised some money for Breast Cancer Research.

Someone is going to die.

Didn't some guy die in a CyberCafe playing WoW or something, he never got up or anything.

You know, Vega, you keep twisting my words. If you cannot see that I am, first off, not saying I am an authority, but merely stating that I find it hard to believe that lack of sleep was the sole factor of his death, you are the only one who fails. Further, the only thing I have flaunted as fact, is that science has evidence that says the brain will not allow your body to damage itself by going extreme periods without sleep.

So seriously, why are you trying to prove me wrong, when all I have said is my opinion on this. If you want my source for the brain statement. Go watch that new discovery channel special on the human body.

A final note. You fail again, my name is not Joesph. Look at my profile, man. It is right there. Oh, to give you something else to think about, when I noted that he may have missed dosage of medication, I meant just that. Perhaps blood pressure pills, he may have had a cold or some other ailment that caused him to require medication to treat it.

So, I am concluding this little mud slinging fest. If you want to continue, go ahead and PM me.

New form of sleep deprivation/torture will now be to play a really crappy game for 72 hours straight. That'll teach 'em

lol? This 24 hour thing is hardly record-breaking, tons of people out there actually game for far longer than that without breaks - unhealthy yes, but it happens. Just go to any heavy LAN events and you'll see what I mean. There's always a few people dotted here and there who actually don't move from their seats for 36-48 hours and always have a game on.
April 16th, 2008 5:00AM(PT)
Frizzeh
give me something with 24hrs worth of real gameplay and I'd do that.
