Montreal independent developers pay homage to psychotic owls

Owl season is afoot Image 1

Owl Country is beautiful, or, to some "the tops." But to truly appreciate it, first you must know the story. Basically, a group of independent developers from Montreal, Canada were leaving a gaming event called Gamma 256, when, upon departing each other's company, they sighted a raging battle between pigeon..and owl. As you'll see from the video below, the event signalled the end of the age of the pigeon.

The idea for the game came about with this event, which occurred during the Game Developers Conference this year and was mostly done in one of the guys hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn they were staying at. The cast (yep, there are voice actors and everything) is really quite extensive too, featuring several programmers, artists, voice actors (amateur or not), and a score composer. The voice-overs, evidently, were helped along by beers and cigars.

The game is OpenGL and cross-platform Mac/PC. A few bugs aside, it seems to be essentially complete.

With any luck, this thing will game some popularity/notoriety and maybe end up on the DS someday.

In a world… of gentlemen…

When filthy pigeons plague the city…

One owl will rise to the challenge…

To take back the night sky with fury and malevolence.

Will that owl be you?

PLAY OWL COUNTRY NOW. LEARN THE TRUE STORY.
