Metal Gear Solid 4 dated for June 12th
Leo Chan - Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 | 1:55PM (PST)

We can come out our cardboard boxes around then

After a few delays and further uncertainty surrounding the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PlayStation 3, Konami not only lays the fears to rest but does us all one better by at last officially announcing a final release date for the game.  PS3 fans can no look forward to their killer exclusive (as far as we know) this June 12th.

Meanwhile Sony Computer Entertainment announces a MGS4 PS3 hardware bundle for gamers who are looking forward to Konami's latest, but have yet to score a PS3 console.  It may come as a surprise that the MGS4 bundle will include an 80GB PS3 model, as opposed to the more recent 40GB version.  That ought to be fine with potential PS3 owners, as the 40GB model lacks backwards compatibility with PS2 games anyways.

Well, that's the good news but who guarantee that the PS3(80GB) will be equipped with the PS2 emulator or emotion engine chip??

Nobody can guarantee that, I suppose. Only they will ship with the old watered down 40GB models. 100% Sure!!!

In my opinion, the latest PS3(80GB)or MGS4 (PS3 Bundle) will not be compitable with PS2 at all, because of Sony's shrewd cost-cutting plan. Sony already had emphasised that they will only focus on PS3 softwares in the future and will not equip the PS2 emulator for the future PS3 consoles.

At this stage, Sony also discontinued the existing 80GB Models because of cost-cutting. I don't think that 80GB will ever come out again!!!

That's just sad, so sad for some fans!!!

I have a feeling the reason Sony cut the distribution of the 80 Gig was so they could do that. I mean it makes perfect sense. They never said they were gonna cut production after all.

im going with the PS3 bundle probably. but i may just get the 40 Gig and MGS4 separately since i have no need for the 80 Gig.

but im definitely gonna get a PS3 for this game, and also to play Blu-ray on.
