$85,000 cell phone bill - no, not from an iPhone
William Henning - Thursday, December 13th, 2007 | 11:26AM (PT)

Sometimes, regulation would be a good idea.

$85,000 cell phone bill - no, not from an iPhone Image 1

Bell recently introduced an "unlimited" mobile browsing package for its customers. Sounds good, right?

Not quite.

Piotr Staniaszek got this plan - and then proceeded to use his phone as a modem for his laptop. He apparently thought that the $10/month "unlimited mobile browsing" would also include downloading files, watching movies etc. Always remember to read the fine print!

Not.

In November he was informed he owed $65,000... he thought it was a mistake... and racked up another $20,000 in December.

He is going to fight the charges.

Bell so far has offered to reduce his charges to $5,000

If I got a bill for $65,000 I wouldn't be using the phone until I got that part straightened out. Of course I also know not to use my cell phone for surfing the web, downloading huge amounts of content.

Musta been DLing an awful lot of stuff to rack up that much...

Yeah, what kinda moron gets that sort of bill, and just keeps on doing what he was doing, without bothering to get it straightened out first? >_>

Yes, I would have called them right when I got the bill to settle that out. Damn. I would hate to owe that much.

I'd go crazy from that amount of money.

Not reading the fine print can really screw things over.
