Incredibly massive console game collection up for auction
Kevin Spiess - Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 | 11:55AM (PT)

It'd take about 5 years just to play every game just a little

Some people enjoy collecting things.

Some people really, really enjoy collecting things.

And then some other people take it to a whole other level entirely -- like this eBay'er from New York state for instance, who has amassed a massive, gigantic collection of console games. And this humongous collection of consoles, controllers and games, can be yours for the only $11,000 clams USD.

What do you get for $11,000? A lot. This veritable library of console gaming spans 30 years, back from the black'n'white blocky bit-days of Pacman rip-offs and game systems sporting faux-plastic wood paneling, to the later-on hey-day of fallen consoles, such as the SNK Neo Geo Pocket, and the VM Labs Nuon. This serious game collector has a number of extremely rare products in his collection: such as, for example, a Christmas version of the Sega Saturn game NiGHTS (never heard of this myself) and Attack of the Mutant Penguins for the Atari Jaguar (which is a real game, apparently...albeit only notable for its rareness, not its fun-ness.)

The entire collection is listed in depth at this website, and the eBay auction can be found here.

And in addition to the more than 1700 different console games, the collection also includes the actual consoles themselves, and controllers, and related components.

It'll be interesting to see what this 'gold mine' collection of old console games sells for.

Only $11K?

As far as collections go, that is actually not too bad, providing there are at least several other rare ones (like the ones listed)....

I could see this collection really growing in value, in say, like 20 years or so from now.

Maybe Attack of the Mutant Penguins will become like the comic book Superman #1 of the 21st century..?

This seems a bit over the top. Almost silly, why the hell would someone save THAT many games!?!?! Also, only 11k? What the hell? That isn't much of a profit.

WOW! He's got the Nintendos where the plastic fades yellow after a decade of storage!

@iamjoe56 - Ummm, no profit I would think >_> I'm pretty sure he spent more buying them, then he'd get for selling them...

I know, that was my point.

Geez, wonder how much that cost in total back when he first bought it all.

000DESTRUCT0
I wonder if he amassed all this stuff over time and planned on selling it in the future when it would be worth a lot more as collectors' items or if he actually bought all of this because he's that much of a nerd.

Destructo,

Someone with a picture of the enterprise going to warp over and over, shouldn't be calling others nerdy. lol.

Actually, I am just as nerdy since I know the source of 000Destruct0: it is the final command given to the computer onboard the original Enterprise by Kirk, ordering it to self-destruct in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. :-)

John, you are a Mega nerd, I already new that.

Wow what a bunch of nerds you guys are!

But I have to include myself -- maybe no one made it out -- but the avatar from my name is actually an image of a Gorn from the original series.

This is what I'm planning on doing with my Pokemon cards when I turn like 50.

Ha, that sound like me. i kept all my pokemon cards in my closet and hope to retire on any of the rare ones.

Also how many of the games with actually work? i have a super nintendo (the little gray box) from my youth adn most of the games wont work unless you spend about ten minutes blowing on them(i know this is bad for them, but i still want to play Kirby sometimes)

Also emulators online could give the same number of games for none of the cost and yes i know it is somewhat illigel, but then again who has not downloaded somthing from the internet at one point?

Kspiess, I was steadfastly ignoring the Gorn you have for an image. lol. Iam only 16 and I have become a Trekky. So, I too am a mega nerd. Sadly. I blame JOHN!

The only Star Trek I ever got into was Enterprise. The 2 trekky fans I know seem to be disgusted at me for this

I enjoyed Enterprise more than most, I think.

However I hope that one day Star Trek will go full circle, and similar to how they did it back in the days of the original series, actually commission / hire real science fiction writers to write episodes for TV. That'd be great.

Along with a new Star Trek series I suppose?

Nah, I think its in the best interest of Trek to lay low for awhile, and take a TV break. They kinda oversaturated themselves, I think.
