South Park takes on Guitar Hero
Kevin Spiess - Monday, November 5th, 2007 | 2:08PM (PT)

First the Emmy-winning World of Warcraft episode, and now "Guitar Queer-O"

Those funny minds behind South Park have decided to set their satiric sights onto the Guitar Hero series of games. This week's episode, airing on Wednesday night (depending on where you live) will be called  "Guitar Queer-O", and will follow the antics of Kyle and Stan, as they get hopelessly addicted to a Guitar Hero type game.

This episode follows the last year's hugely popular "Make Love, Not Warcraft" episode, which helped garner the long-running animated show an Emmy.

I'll let the pictures below speak for themselves:

Can't wait to see it. The "Make Love, Not Warcraft" episode had me ROTFLMFAO and I'm sure this one will do the same.

I tend to agree. I can see a peripheral attachment (no pun intended) to the game Guitar Hero but this is about an episode of a TV show. That'd be akin to posting a "news story" about the latest Jerry Springer episode.

I thought that NeoSeeker was attempting to be a site of news (even if many statements are not fully investigated before being put forth as fact). I would appreciate it if we could read something more about science or technology (the two areas that seem to be the main concentration of the stories of NeoSeeker) rather than some useless fluff such as this.

O gosh... dont get soo tied up in proffesional-ism otherwise you guys can go run your own site. Its new news to me so Id rather save my "complaints" (if I ever had any...) for the site feedback forum.

iamjoe56 + Cillchaoi: I reserve the right to write news articles of my choosing...I believe this is written somewhere in my 'Charter of Rights and Freedoms of Neoseeker News Writers' handbook someplace -- and furthermore, this is a relevant story, to the website's audience -- it has to do with a very popular game. Judging from the comments many people appreciated the story.

iamjoe56, please do not needlessly offend people. Your previous comment had no validity beyond trying to get a rise out of someone, so I erased it. Further comments that are also based on insults, or personal attacks, will also be erased.

Cillchaoi,

Go out ide, breathe some fresh air, go to a sauna, relax, serenity please.

This site is about technology, science, video games and anything related to those subjects. Which means a popular satirical show like South Park doing a show on video games, applies.

Lets not act so high and mighty for the sake of spewing arrogant jargon.

Wow, I can't wait.

I hope it's as good as last year's World of Warcraft episode. That episode is gold.

Ya, it should be great.

I'm also a little impressed that the South Park guys timed it right around the launch of Guitar Hero III (which MAY have been an accident...)

Kevin,

Yes, you have the write to produce articles of whatever you wish, provided that they are accurate, of course. However, I have the right to comment on them as well and I can state my opinion as to whether they are worthy of being called news or not. Further, I have a right to say that I would expect more from a website that is promoting itself as a source of news on science and technology.

Maybe I should start writing senseless articles about the weather here since that is tangentially related to games such as The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which features changing weather randomly as one plays the game. That would make about as much sense as this article did as being a discussion of the game Guitar Hero.

As for commentary about the show itself, I shall say that it is very low-brow and appealing to a different class of people than me. I prefer watching something more interesting, such as shows regarding ancient Egypt; scientific investigation of other planets, starts, or spatial phenomena; or, for something more relaxed and fun, MythBusters.

iamjoe56 -=> You didn't ask a simple question. You called tweaker a 'stupid democrat' or something equally inane and jumped on his face for little reason at all, and made no substantial points beyond that. And brucelee is not Micah.

Cillchaoi -=> This website has news on science and technology, but also silly, unimportant stuff. I mean I've written stories about Japanese sex-bots and 40-foot tall car-eating monsters, as well as stuff about spacecraft propulsion drives, and upcoming video cards, etc.. I write varied stuff and not all of it will appeal specifically to you, Cillchaoi, because I am writing for a broad audience ...
November 6th, 2007 2:37PM(PT)
Cillchaoi
I also felt that the car-eating monster article was a bit out there but I let it go since I saw it as being a single anomaly and not completely inane. This, however, is over the top and, as such, warranted a comment. You have your view, to which you are entitled, but I also have mine as both a reader and a critic.

To be frank, I have to say that I agree with other posts that I have seen elsewhere on this website: this site reports many inaccuracies and senseless items. I do wonder why I bother to come around and read the articles still and I still do not have an answer other than the fact that maybe I get a kick out of seeing how erroneous much of the information is. When I have information that I can add that is accurate, I do so as there are enough urban myths and legends floating around on the Internet purported to be truth, thanks to people believing everything they read on weblogs or websites promoting themselves as being sources of news.

The proliferation of the Internet since the mid-1990s has seen the skeptical eye of the general public diminish. It used to be that people would seek verification from a credible source before they believed what they read. Now, people will believe what they read and become skeptical of actual scientific evidence. That is depressing but understandable since our education system has deteriorated. We no longer teach our students how to think critically.
November 6th, 2007 2:39PM(PT)
iamjoe56
Inane!?!?!? Ok...I am begining to feel a little hostility here. Forgive me for having a very BAD day today.

As for Brucelee. I think he is, beleive me, so Is deathmonkey, most likely. The similarities are uncanny.

And I did not call tweaker a "stupid democrat" I told him to stop being such a democrat. And again, forgive me for not putting up with Liberalistic Bullshit anymore.

And on my final note, everyone does have the right to comment as they wish. So if John(cillchaoi) does not think this is a real newstory, whatever! Who the freak cares!?!?!?!?

Cill tends to be a much more practical person, trust me, I know him. So why does this mean people have to tell us to not be all tied up in profesionalism?

And as for you writing for a broad audience, yes okay, good for you. But we are in the audience too.

November 6th, 2007 2:44PM(PT)
kspiess
Ya, I agree with your comments.

You are free to say whatever you wish. I have not censored Cillchaoi, nor will will I censor comments that are at all reasonable, no matter how much I may disagree with (both of) your points of view.

But I will censor comments that just attacks on other Neoseeker users, for no reason at all. I don't want Neoseekers making innocent comments having to put up with baseless, personal attacks from you (and you are the only user who has done so since I started working for this website 4-5 months ago).

I'm not going to get drawn into a big argument about it. You seem to love to argue, but I do not, and I have work to do here...
November 6th, 2007 2:51PM(PT)
iamjoe56
I love to argue? I am the only one who has made baseless personel attacks? Has EVERYONE forgotten about Micah?

And on a side note, I am begining to feel as though you are dealing with me as you would a child. I have sauid this before, I have no patience for such treatment. So please do NOT start down that road.
November 6th, 2007 2:53PM(PT)
Cillchaoi
Kevin,

Hmmm, Dave (iamjoe56) has been the only one to make personal attacks? Maybe you have a selective memory. I shall point out to you that your associate Micah (J. Micah Grunert in the articles he has posted, aka MicahWrites) has made personal and inappropriate attacks against Dave by insulting his intelligence and upbringing and those comments were allowed to stay publically posted. So, not only is your statement in error but you have also shown that you pick and choose what you wish to censor. If you are trying to promote a site in which there are no "out of line" attacks on others (and I would wholeheartedly support you promoting such a site), then you should have been just as reactive against Micah's inappropriate posts as you were against Dave for a questionable post.

Guys, really, I'm done responding to your comments.
November 6th, 2007 3:10PM(PT)

Kevin,

That is fine. You may be done replying. I hope only that you will apply the same standards to all instead of only selectively. That shows that you wish to promote yourself and this site as being fair and equal rather than very one-sided and judgemental. If you delete one person's comments as potentially being interpreted as inclusive of ad hominem attacks, then you should delete those that are without a shadow of a doubt inclusive thereof.

Right on the money! Arbitrary deletion of comments to posts made by the moderators that prove they have made errors rather than deletion of attacks by the moderators against the users' lineages.

Hmmm, it seems that Kevin is trying to cover his tracks a bit by adding empty messages with a series of dots so as to keep the number of posts the same, as if Dave and I were using only the number of remaining posts to detect his inappropriate censorship. I'm here to tell you, Kevin, it doesn't work! You need to quit being immature, accept the criticism that you have been given appropriately, and quit trying to delete that criticism just because you don't like being caught in your errors.

hey Kev. I simply must say this. You have to be one of the most wiley little idiots I have met!

As iff deleting stops us from making our case! (big laugh) We are only doing what a good reader should do, scrutinizing your work. Also, I suppose you should know this, but their is a function known as copying and pasting.

now I will leave you to think about the implications of that little feature. But suffice it to say. Records are a way of life.

Guys. Calm down. I asked Kspiess to delete those so as not to continue the whole argument. I didn't want him spending his time responding to posts that weren't constructively discussing the news and instead focus on projects that he's responsible for.

You fellows can feel free to respond to the news but try to keep things relatively civil. This is a privately run site and we have the right to remove things we feel have no benefit to the readers or the community.

Both of you guys know the drill since you're not newbs. Outright flames are not welcome here.

If you have a problem with the way the news is done then by all means send me some feedback. If you notice that kspiess doesn't reply to you guys directly anymore then that's also my fault. I've asked him to stop spending time on the comments, mostly because there's plenty of stuff waiting for all of us to do.

Actually it seems like you guys are pretty peeved at something which is strictly my decision: the editorial direction of the site. I requested that writers spend a bit more time finding interesting gaming or gaming industry related "news". Its true I want more tech news too, but we're rather short handed right now. Maybe rather than causing trouble by giving us grief you might want to volunteer some of your time to help round out the tech news? That would be rather awesome.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want to discuss editorial direction and give me feedback on it, but unfortunately I'm very busy trying to work on upgrades to the site.

Cheers.

Redemption, aka Howard Ha, there would have been no problem to begin with if he had not bothered to delete messages that did have bearing in the first place. Further, as I have pointed out to him but about which you may not be aware, others (most notably Micah Grunert) have made much more inappropriate posts in the past that were allowed to remain. Thus, it is very subjective and inappropriate for something that does pertain to the articles and related criticism to be deleted when personal attacks are not.

The point is that Kevin needs to accept appropriate criticism, which both Dave and I have offered, and deal with it. He is putting his name on the front line of the public and is attempting to approach this in some form of professionalism. He should be prepared for criticism from those in the audience who have additional information or appropriate reactions from errors, omissions, falsehoods, or other problems.

If you have seen me around over the past few months, you know that I post corrections to articles on a regular basis and substantiate them with legitimate and credible sources. I have never before been subjected to actions such as what Kevin has taken tonight. I shall expect that he will cease and desist from such action now and in the future.
