A Bio-Battery from Sony that runs with sugar
J. Micah Grunert - Thursday, August 23rd, 2007 | 12:35PM (PT)

Finally, there's a use for all of that flat soda pop and uneaten cake lying around.

It seems that we are entering an age of new energy resources that are both cheap and environmentally friendly. Solar panels are getting a much need boost in efficiency, hydrogen fuel cells are becoming common place, better bio-fuels are being explored and now Sony has demonstrated something truly unique.

She seems quite pround of her realy big battery powering her little tiny MP3 player.

The sugar powered bio-battery is likely akin to others that have been demonstrated, those using microbes and bacterium to digest the sugar and produce free electrons as a by product. You wont be powering your laptop with a bottle of designer sugar water any time soon, but the demonstration system is capable of running a small MP3 player with a splash of sugar water and three of the sugar cells, or a small fan and just one battery cell.

Yeah, its in Japanese, but you get the idea.

All we need now is a battery that uses salt. Chips and pop will never be the same.

Yay! What we really need is a battery that runs off body fat.

Hey, body fat could be collected from liposuction clinics and refined into bio-diesel.

Honestly, it really could.

Nuh-uhs! It's sheer genieuhs! GENIEUHS!

I still say we aren't trying hard enough to find new ways to create alternate energy sources.

I mean, uh... ah! Sharks!
They can't sleep without moving, right!
So like, harvest that somehow!

There are so many untapped resources like the heat of computer components.
