C&C Fans Rejoice, EA Brings a Sequel to the Franchise.
For many RTS fans Command & Conquer has become a bit of a stanard for gaming to them, the balance and speed and options have made it quite a game over the years long after the last expansion was released. For a while it seemed like all hope was lost for anything new, that is until now. Today EA announces that C&C 3: Tiberium Wars will be coming in 2007 for the PC.
The title is targeted to bring the series back to basics in the Tiberium universe with the same blazing fast but smooth gameplay that the series has grown to adopt as a trademark, of course just as always the game will keep users glued to the screen with an intense storyline that they hope will help to redefine storytelling in RTS titles.
"It is 2047 and the stakes could not be higher. Tiberium -- a self-replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth -- is spreading like a radioactive ice age. The GDI, a high-tech alliance of the world's most advanced nations, is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane, the megalomaniacal leader of The Brotherhood of NOD has other plans for Earth. Kane's secret society turned superpower is bent on using Tiberium to take control and transform humanity into his twisted vision of the future. All-out war rages over Tiberium and the fate of the planet rests in the balance."
The game is in production by EA Los Angeles (EALA) the team says their dedicated to making a Command and Conquer title true to the franchise spirit but of course with an updated visual presentation and strategic depth and new gameplay additions to help bring the game forward into the modern realm such as a very rewarding single player aspect allowing players to work on building mobile bases, using ion storms, and customizing armies by combining units. in the technology area they'll also be working on VOIP, integrated clan support and spectator modes.
With the team so hyped about the project it seems like gamers should be expecting to see quite a good title. For those wondering yes many of the Westwood Studios team still resides at EA Los Angeles which means that the original ideas and members can still put in their work to ensure that they're working on the right path.
Currently the title is a working title, we may still see a name change down the road as the game nears retail release. The title is slated for a 2007 release for the PC. No rating news of course is ready yet, as more info arrives we'll be sure to keep everyone posted.
