Yahoo Acquires Flickr

Photo-sharing service bought by Yahoo

In other search engine news today, Yahoo has acquired local Vancouver firm, Ludicorp Research & Development which runs Flickr, a photo-sharing website according to the AP.
Flickr allows users to upload digital photos from computers and camera phones, and assemble them into albums that can be posted on blogs and shared with other users. The photo-sharing service will likely become a cornerstone for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company's new "Yahoo 360" concept -- which blends blogging and social networking.
I am guessing that this is Yahoo's answer to Google's acquisition of Picasa which remains one of my favorite free apps. I read a couple blogs but I am by no means deep into the blogging community and honestly this is the first time I've head of Flickr. It seems like the majority of people use PhotoBucket and Sony's ImageStation from what I can tell though for free photo hosting.
