Pricing pressures due to dual layer and 12x burners?
OEM prices of mainstream 8x8 DVD Dual (+R/-R and/or +RW/-RW) burners have slipped by more than 20% to below US$100, down from their launch price of US$120-130 in the first quarter, according to Taiwanese makers of optical disc drives.
I do not understand how this industry manages to keep itself afloat with 20% drops in price in one quarter. It was pricing pressures from Taiwanese drive manufacturers that caused Yamaha to throw in the towel on their optical drive aspirations.
