Square and Disney's action role-playing game receives Game Developers Choice Award for visual arts excellence
"LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 7, 2003) -- Square Electronic Arts L.L.C. (Square Electronic Arts), the exclusive publisher of all Squaresoft products in North America, and Disney Interactive proudly announced today that Kingdom Hearts was honored by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) in the category of Excellence in Visual Arts. The award winners were announced last night at the Third Annual Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Jose, Calif.
Tetsuya Nomura, director and character designer for Kingdom Hearts said, 'On behalf of the Square, Disney Interactive and our development team, I would like to thank IGDA for this incredible award. To be honored with this award makes us realize that not only do our fans appreciate our work, but our peers as well. I couldn't be happier with the success of Kingdom Hearts and would like to continue to create games that offer a unique and exciting visual experience for the gamers.'
Kingdom Hearts was released for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system in September 2002 and sold one million units in North America in the first three months of its release, making it one of the top selling video games in 2002. The game has a suggested retail price of U.S. $50 and is rated "E" (Everyone). Additional information on the title can be found at http://www.kingdomhearts.com."
