GTA 5 will release at the perfect time, says Rockstar's Houser

Game launches during Spring 2013

Grand Theft Auto 5's release at the end of the current console cycle is perfect timing, so says Rockstar vice president Dan Houser, who is also the writer behind the Grand Theft Auto series.

He stressed that the acclaimed developer is a content company, not a hardware firm. "We use the technology we have to create content, and we try not to let ourselves get beholden to the hardware," he stated.

"The fact that hardware's so mature right now is exactly why we're able to go on to the next level. GTA 4 was our first attempt at a new platform and HD visuals, so the first part of development was seriously difficult. Now we know what the hardware's capable of, so it's become a lot easier to move things along and a lot more fun, too."

Houser added that GTA: San Andreas came out at the peak of the PlayStation 2's cycle, which he believes allowed Rockstar to launch a "really good game". He continued on to state that all of the best games for a given console launches at the end of its lifecycle. "So now's the best timing of all."

Grand Theft Auto 4, which released back in 2008, has sold over 20 million units to date. Releasing such a hotly-anticipated title like GTA 5 at the end of the current console generation life cycle won't do it any harm and, due to that, it certainly has a good chance to exceed its predecessor's commercial performance; analysts tip the game to eventually sell over 25 million units.

GTA 5, which was showcased in its long-awaited second trailer yesterday, is due for a worldwide release during Spring, 2013.

Mass Effect film adaptation moving forward, gets new screenwriter

Morgan Davis Foehl writing movie's script

Image 1

Legendary Entertainment is moving forward with the video game to movie adaptation for BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, with the studio hiring Morgan Davis Foehl to write the upcoming film's script.

While Foehl isn't a big name in the movie industry yet, he has written "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" and "Crosshair," which is an adaptation of the Top Cow comicbook. In addition, he was also the assistant editor on FX show Rescue Me.

Foehl is apparently a Mass Effect fan and has written scripts that have featured similar plots stemming from the Mass Effect franchise.

The first writer to try his luck with the game to movie adaptation was the more well-known Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor), but details regarding whether Foehl will build from his work or start from scratch remains unclear.

Elsewhere, Mass Effect 3, which made over $200 million in revenue for EA after it shipped 3.5 million units, will receive its Omega DLC pack next month.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Xbox 360 version includes HD texture install

Optional install not offered on the PS3 version

Image 1

The Xbox 360 version of Medal of Honor: Warfighter includes a HD texture install that weighs in at 1.7GB. The installation, which is optional for players, offers "optimal visual quality" for the shooter.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter already runs on DICE's Battlefield 3 engine, Frostbite 2, so it's puzzling why such installations are offered, especially when it's not present on the PlayStation 3. Sony's platform doesn't have the optional HD installation for the title, but it does require a mandatory installation.

The sequel to the five million-copy-selling 2010 installment ships on two disks for the Xbox 360 version.

Danger Close's shooter is now available in North America, while it'll launch in Europe tomorrow.

RAGE mod tools due to arrive "real soon now", assures Carmack

Was supposed to launch alongside shooter's release a year ago

Image 1

An evidently frustrated John Carmack has said that modding tools for RAGE is still forthcoming. They were due to become available alongside the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter upon its launch during October 2011, but it ultimately failed to come into fruition.

According to Carmack, id had to put RAGE mod tools aside in order to work on Doom 3: BFG Edition. However, with the latter now released, the long awaited mod tools for the shooter will arrive "real soon now".

The id Software co-founder expressed his frustration pertaining to the delay, and also admitting to committing mistakes on the situation.

"BFG work pushed the Rage tools, but Real Soon Now. I hope. Sigh. I think we have made poor decisions on this all year."

Publisher Bethesda had previously expressed its commitment to RAGE, with the firm hoping it becomes an established franchise.

Arkane Studios designer would "love it" if there wasn't a Dishonored 2

Bethesda may think otherwise due to title's positive commercial performance

Image 1

Despite the game proving it's a commercial triumph for publisher Bethesda by becoming the biggest new IP launch in the United KingdomDishonored designer Harvey Smith has stated he'd be content if a sequel did or didn't come into fruition.

He explained that a part of him "would love to see future games leverage this world," while another part "would love it if the vault door was just closed and that's it. This is your one view into the Empire of the Isles and into the city of Dunwall."

Upon being asked for a more specific choice, Smith responded by laughing and saying, "I can't say!"

While it's refreshing to hear Smith suggesting something that isn't familiar in the industry, Bethesda, ultimately, is a company and will undoubtedly approve a sequel in a financial standpoint.

Microsoft permanently banning Halo 4 pirates from Xbox LIVE

343 Industries shooter leaked onto torrent sites over the weekend

Those who made the smart decision to play Halo 4 whilst signed into Xbox LIVE after downloading the shooter through torrents have been/will face a permanent ban from the service.

Microsoft's Live enforcement team is sending emails to players notifying them that they've been permanently suspended from Xbox Live due to "prerelease title play".

In order to play pirated titles on the Xbox 360, the console must be modded. However, playing online or being signed into Xbox LIVE whilst playing a game weeks before its release will inevitably lead to a lifetime ban. "Your Xbox Live privileges will not be reinstated," reads the email.

Over the weekend, Halo 4 leaked onto torrent sites, with Microsoft investigating the situation, as well as removing gameplay videos and general spoiler footage (the game's ending, etc.) from YouTube.

Halo 4 officially launches nationwide on November 6, 2012.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, meanwhile, debuted at 7th, while Resident Evil 6 settled for fourth.

The top 20 selling games in the UK last week are:

  2. Dishonored

Halo 4 leaked to torrent sites, Microsoft investigating

Countless videos of gameplay footage surface

Image 1

Although there's still a good few weeks left until the launch of Halo 4, the 343 Industries-developed Xbox 360 exclusive has been leaked onto torrent sites.

Torrent sites are hosting single ISOs of each disc (one for the campaign and one for the multiplayer component), which weighs in at 8,334MB. Other torrents contain a combined two-disc download.

Thousands of seeds are currently available, which, unfortunately for Microsoft, won't stop spreading anytime soon. The firm, meanwhile, has been busy over the weekend removing gameplay footage of the shooter from YouTube, as well as videos pertaining to the opening cinematic and, of course, the title's ending segment.

Since the leak, a series of Xbox Live profiles have been proved that they have Halo 4 running on their console. Microsoft responded to the leak with the following statement:

We have seen the reports of 'Halo 4' content being propped on the Web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation.

Halo 4 is due for a worldwide launch on November 6.
