Square EA confirms Final Fantasy Chronicles

See re-releases of Final Fantasy IV AND Chrono Trigger in one special bundle package for the PlayStation

Square Electronic Arts has finally confirmed this week Final Fantasy Chronicles, a compilation game similar to the previously released Final Fantasy Anthology that includes PlayStation re-releases of classic Squaresoft SNES games. The SNES games in question this time are Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, both well-received by console RPG fans then and now. Final Fantasy IV received a PlayStation port much earlier in Japan as part of the Final Fantasy Collection (which also included Final Fantasy V and VI), but for some reason never made it into Final Fantasy Anthology. Chrono Trigger takes place before Chrono Chross, and marked for the first time a collaboration between FF producer Hinorobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest scenario writer Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball Z character designer Akira Toriyama. And that's not even getting into the game itself!

As in Final Fantasy Anthology before it, the games in Final Fantasy Chronicles will receive minor updates. The updated PlayStation version of Chrono Trigger will feature new cinematic sequences that help tie the game its sequel Chrono Chross. A theatre, music box, art gallery, and bestiary are all available for the player to unlock.

PS Final Fantasy IV updates include a dash feature that allows for speedy movement while exploring, and an option to allow 2 players to participate in battle at the same time. Story elements removed from the original SNES release will be included as well.

The Final Fantasy Chronicles bundle package is currently set to ship in North America July 19th.
