This is probably true for gaming in general. I play MMOs, but I am certainly not an addict. In fact I play other games all the time =)

Someone should make a MMORPG where the game world's economy is booming and you just like work a regular job and stuff.

Free MMO's yes I can see them benefiting from it all, hell if DICE release Battlefield Heroes while recession is going on, they will make a killing.

However I can't see MMO's in general, in fact I can't see where anyone has gotten this research from. Fact of the matter is, they may have more time but without a job...there is no money. Most gamers are teens or living with parents (such as moi) or rich/spoilt kids. Others well yeah I suppose there maybe some that spend dole money on MMO's instead of feeding themselves and that would be like someone spending the dole money for booze...but again, I can't see where they are getting this information from.

However on that note, many people in the retail industry such as myself have had hours cut and so I am working part-time...that does give me pretty much a whole day to myself since I work 10am to 2pm GMT Monday to Friday

Meh, suppose it is nice to know there are actually people in the world more sad than yourself

Dude, I've got to reach level 70 Electrician this weekend. What server is your Customer Service Rep on? Maybe you can help me power level by boosting my service call rate.

Wow im smarter in this game than i am in real life.

In all seriousness they probably have parents paying for the mmo they play unless its a free one.

The article is probably referring to mmo players who are indepent, not people still living with their parents.

I don't think so, people losing their jobs doesn't mean that things like videos games go by the wayside. Beer sales are actually up because of the recession and it's the same rationale for gaming. People don't have money for food/rent, but they will scrounge cash for escapism activities.

^^^ ya it the same thing happened the in the Great Depression: board game sales did really well.

Noraf45 -=> My CSR just got his Question Deflection skill up to level 5! If you got an electrician alt. you might want to try power leveling in the Generic Office Building #5 Office... of Doom! I hear the wires are all bunched up together there. Easy pickings. You'll be making more than a level 2 sprinkler fitter in no time man...

Sweet! I'll head over there as soon as I finish farming Dirty Hobos for a set of Rusted Boltcutters, then I can finally trade them in for my last piece of uber equipment, the Tools of Stanley!

At $15-20 a month subscription to play your favorite MMOG with friends, you can raise that panhandling! And it's way healthier and safer than drinking your troubles away in a bar where $20 will last you ONE evening of 4 pints or cocktails (2 in LA or NYC).
