Poor performance and economic conditions threaten series' future
Too Human -- remember that old thing? Lots of hype, lots of trash talking, and eventually, mediocre sales contrasted with a high budget. A blog from Kris Erickson of Xboxist speculates the future of the planned trilogy from Silicon Knights is in serious danger. Between the job cuts at partner Microsoft, the first game's high development costs (estimated at $80 million USD over 10 years), and final sales (about 560,000 copies), it's not unreasonable to furrow one's brow in worry over the future.
Of course, it's not all doom and gloom, which is an easy picture to paint. 560,000 copies doesn't make it a blockbuster per se, but it's really not a terrible number either. While Microsoft may be looking to more wisely spend its funding, there would be worse places to put it than in Silicon Knights and a Too Human sequel.
In any case, Erickson says a multiplatform release of the first title could be a good bet to ensure follow-ups (or one, at least). Though it's doubtful "Silicon Knights might be able to double their worldwide sales for the game" with this move (especially with relatively low PlayStation 3 console sales), it could be a smart route to take.
Too Human Two: what say you?
Regarding the multiplatform release, I don't think they should bother with Ep.1. Every gamer problem is well aware of all the flaws with that game... I don't think PC gamers would want to buy it all, and doubt PS3 ppl would either.
You should play the demo first. Reviews are just reviews. I can think of a good few games, movies, whatever that I've loved that lots of reviewers have hated. I would hope most others could too.
As for the trilogy thing that kinda sucks because i was hoping for a good story finsher instead their going to have to cut out a few things when the 2nd one comes out. And the second one will be realesed more than likely because all they have left to do is make new levels, do the voice work, make new weapons/armour, imporve the level cap and add new skills. This would take around 5 to 8 months (if they rush and skip over things), or if they take their time and do everything right a year to year and couple months.
