MGS4 hits milestone, LBP hits its stride, more

December 2008 NPD: more revelations Image 1

We brought you the top 10s from NPD's sales last week, but that ain't all there is to it. Outside of those brackets are some interesting bits: for instance, LittleBigPlanet's sales have now totalled 611,000 units following a pickup in December, in keeping with predictions by Sony UK's PR.

Another note gamers will likely be interested in is Metal Gear Solid 4's current sales total, which actually isn't terribly far ahead of LittleBigPlanet at 1.076 million units (excluding bundled versions). Keeping in mind of course, MGS launched in mid-June, while LBP released in late October.

Meanwhile Prince of Persia's total console sales have hit a dissapointing 483,000 copies, with the PC version having failed to hit the top 10, though it did make the top 20 all-format charts in the UK recently. The bright side is the PS3 version sold within 30,000 units of the Xbox version, which is interesting given it has half the install base.

And finally, though Eidos previously reported worldwide sales of 1.5 million for Tomb Raider: Underworld, NPD notes total sales on all consoles for the U.S. have hit only 246,000 copies, the U.S., naturally, being where most companies make the majority of their dough. The game charted well in Europe for some time, so this seems to explain the large contrast in numbers. Eidos' shares have lost 25 percent of their value since.

I like both Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet, Kojima's last game is awesome and it deserves a milestone!!!!

Note: I'd like want to know the total sale numbers of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (first one) not plus version.
