Treasure CEO says he was approached by Microsoft
A lot of old school gamers were pretty pleased when Ikaruga popped up on Xbox LIVE. Now Treasure CEO Masato Maegawa is saying that Microsoft has approached him about remaking Radiant Silvergun for XBLA.
The company hasn't given an answer yet, but Maegawa is seriously considering it as he reflects upon the limitless possibilities that a digital re-release might open up. He explains, "I think we'd definitely like to see it out there. But the situation around the game is a bit different from Ikaruga, so I don't know if we'd see it on [LIVE]."
Radiant Silvergun came out in 1998 for Sega Saturn in Japan. Though the game never saw an official Western release, it has accumulated a cult following like many such region exclusives.
"Microsoft actually asked us if we could put it out," Maegawa went on to say. "We're thinking about it, certainly, but it's not as simple as just saying 'OK let's put it up.' I mean, sure, with Ikaruga, we released it as-is without having to do or add a great deal to the game, and it was popular and well accepted for what it was."
He laughed as he continued, "But if you play Radiant Silvergun nowadays, it's certainly aged in assorted ways, and I'm not sure they're all good."
