GT212 to have 384 SP's?
William Henning - Monday, January 5th, 2009 | 11:33AM (PT)

Interesting rumour...

Fudzilla has found a german rumour purportedly giving details about the GT212:

  GT200 GT200b GT212
Geometry 65nm 55nm 40nm
Chip area 576mm2 470mm2 <300mm2
Transistors 1400M 1400M <1800M
SPE's 240 240 384
Texture units 80 80 96
Memory interface 512b 512b 256b
Memory Type GDDR3 GDDR3 GDDR5
Launch Q2/08 Q4/08 Q2/09

The higher transistor count (due to increased number of SPE's) along with probably higher clocks will tend to offset the power savings one could expect from the geometry shrink and smaller chip surface area; and going to a 256b memory bus - even with GDDR5 - is likely to result in lower memory bandwidth, unless the GDDR5 used is twice as fast as GDDR3.

that lower memory bandwidth just lost it a customer. everything was looking awesome until that line.

Because looking at the unofficial specs of a piece of hardware before even the earliest semblance of a benchmark comes out is a great way to appraise a potential investment.
