New service arrives in 2009 -- in Japan
Who didn't see this coming? Looks like watching television on your console is the new big thing, and Nintendo has officially hopped aboard the bandwagon.
The Japanese video game corporation recently announced a new service that will allow Wii owners to stream videos through their console via the Internet. They're still considering the price, but Nintendo is currently considering offering videos both for free and fees.
They've teamed up with Japanese advertising firm Dentsu Inc. to develop this feature, which will be out some time next year in Japan. While Nintendo does plan to extend this video service to foreign markets (that means us), there is no indication of when that's going to happen.
Both Nintendo and Dentsu are now soliciting other businesses to participate and create original video content for the Wii. In a joint statement, the companies proudly declared, "Nintendo and Dentsu shall use the environment surrounding the Wii so that living rooms with Wii-ready TVs would become more of a fun area for communication among families and friends."
