EETimes - did they get an exclusive, or did they jump the gun?
Everyone and their uncle has read the rumours of the Phenom II - formerly known as Deneb - and EETimes, a respected dead tree magazine (and web site) has jumped the gun, got NDA dates wrong, got an exclusive, or simply managed to really annoy AMD.
I looked on AMD's press release page, and there is no sign of a press release announcing Phenom II, so take what you read with a grain of salt.
According to EETimes:
- Phenom II will come with up to 8MB of cache, and will be 45nm based - so far so good, agrees with the Shanghai specs, and rumours.
- Phenom II will run at "data rates" of up to 3GHz - again, still gibes.
- 65nm for AM2+ and 45nm for AM3 <--- this does not agree with previous rumours, according to which all Phenom II's will be 45nm
- Up to 20% improvement over original Phenom - quite possible
- $275 Phenom II 3.0GHz
- $235 Phenom II 2.8GHz
- Expected to appear at CES in January
Frankly, the EETimes piece seems more like a rumour roundup / Shanghai rehash. We'll see how AMD reacts!
from what i've heard deneb is a fantastic overclocker. hopefully AMD can use that to their advantage...
I plan to build a PC soon, and hope to have at least around 2.8GHz (overclocked or not, preferably not of course) for a reasonable price (re: doesn't break the bank).
