Another great reason for PC gamers to wait a few months before buying a game...

It's a good thing the Steam community is sharp and savvy enough to make sense out of most of these issues! Updating drivers is simple enough, but I can't even imagine how they managed to troubleshoot the Games For Windows Live stuff.

Maybe they really did spend too much time worrying about DRM.

I've made it a religion to buy a game once it's been patched at least once.

    Smart consumers ftw? amiright?

    I concur.
I dont even know why companies release games in this state. I mean sure they must know there are problems. Sigh.

Oh ya. Buying on release day is bad news.

If you are patient type of person, it's better to get the game like 3 months after release, or even longer.

Not to be too rough on PC game dev's though. They have to worry about 3000000000000 different combinations of hardware working together.

Thankfully I am patient...Mirror's Edge I just cant wait for though hehe.

Yeah, true. And I guess its easier to wait for people to have the problems before they try to address them..

Indeed so, my Trident SVGA 1MB ISA card can't run it at all. >_< I paid good money for that like 15 years ago.

Nah you should be able to GTA IV with a Trident SVGA card -- I remember the box promising "Life-like photorealism", 16 bit colors, and "Next generation graphics."

Another reason why Consoles are so much simpler.

Yep, I don't recall anyone saying consoles were more complex at any point? consoles never see patches they just have "updates" afterall sounds much prettier too.

Calling consoles simpler is slamming PCs? That didn't even occur to me.

At least on pc we can try before we buy. Such a case as this, it would be much advised to do so.

there is a reason game consoles have a thing called demos aswell so we are also able to try them before we buy them.

    ^ He's got you there ParanahJoe .

PS. Given the screens of GTAIV PC anyone with a powerful enough PC should definitely pick the PC version over the console one (after bugs are worked out of course)

I was just poking fun at the console industry and the revised labeling system. Just like how motorstorm had a 17 item "update" to patch bad gameplay issues including missing modes from the launch build. lol

The PC edition of GTA has always gotten a special touch to it, it seems that the bonus gift was .net issues which everyone loves so that people could enjoy the improved visuals a small dose at a time.

Ok fine what I meant was, how about try the full retail copy before you buy? Unless you have a modded console you're stuck with demos, yes?

"We are aware that a small number of fans are having problems running GTA IV on their PCs"

Are they serious? These guys are becoming politicians. When will people accept their responsibilities. The game runs like utter crap on even the newest PCs. I have the PS3 version, but still went out and purchased the PC version. My PC is a few months old and can be considered "high spec". Even on the lowest settings, the best FPS I get is 17. I cannot log into the social network and windows live crashes every time I try to log in, which means I cannot save any progress even if I wanted to play the game. I have spent days trying to resolve the problems. This is a complete waste of time of the game was released too early. I opened a trouble ticket with 2K Games and the poor support engineer told me they are overwhelmed with GTA IV PC customer problems.

Daniel King -=> I don't have any on-hand experience with GTA IV PC, but Rockstar's position is that the maxed out 'high' settings for the game can only be handled by hardware that comes out the future. They say that today's top machine's can only run the game at medium settings, but it will still look Xbox 360ish at these settings, and the 'high' settings are only sort of future-proofing once even faster hardware comes out.

I'm not sure I understand the point of waiting??? You will still have to download and install all of the patches that happen between launch and whenever you buy it.

The thing is that the patches aren't out yet, dude It could be a while before the game is running really well.

Personally I would rather pay $300 for a console than spend $1,500 on a PC, and still not max out on the graphics. Sure, there are still glitches on console games, but it dosnt seem to be as bad as it is on PC gaming.

Agreed. But thankfully not all games are like GTA IV/Crysis.

Consoles are definitely more straight forward gaming machines, and are much cheaper, but you can get a decent gaming PC for about $600 (without monitor), -- if you build it yourself, and especially if you are into overclocking. You don't have to spend huge bucks to play most 2008 PC games well.
