EA Sports announces new fitness line for Wii Image 1

Following the ongoing success of Wii Fit, EA Sports will soon be introducing its own brand of fitness gaming to the Nintendo Wii: EA Sports Active.

The upcoming title is scheduled to launch next spring and will have a price tag of $59.99, which is significantly cheaper than the Wii Fit.  Instead of a Balance Board, the game will come with a resistance band for upper body exercises and two leg straps that can hold the Nunchuk to keep track of player's the lower body.

EA Sports president Peter Moore had a lot to say about this new product line:

"EA Sports Active and our entrance into the fitness space is an exciting and groundbreaking milestone for EA SPORTS.  As we continue to expand our brand, we have a real opportunity to redefine the home fitness experience with a more Western cardiovascular approach and exercises that will appeal to a diverse audience, getting people off the couch and into shape while interacting with our products in a way never before possible.

EA Sports Active costs less than a gym membership, it provides a variety of exercises unlike a one dimensional in-home fitness contraption, and it delivers an interactive experience that you don’t get from a DVD – this is a true fitness revolution and a space in which we intend to be leaders."

Active will be the first in a new line of fitness and sports products currently under development, targetting "women seeking a simple, fun and cost-effective way to achieve a healthy lifestyle."  I guess that's bad news for any men who also want that simple, fun and cost-effective healthy lifestyle.  Actually, the company says the game is really for anyone who may be interested but was designed specifically for the fairer sex.

And as if you weren't already completely sold on the game by now, Oprah's personal trainer Bob Greene helped develop Active, alongside other fitness experts.

Sounds like a good idea. Getting exercise is something that people should do.

EA is trying to get in on every market aren't they?

How about to stay fit we just eat healthy and take daily walks? Honestly it works for me, and the best part is, the walk is free!

Why are we so focused on "Easier, less effort" ways to stay fit, that just shows you how lazy the world has really gotten in some parts....
