Horror and terror combined! Unbelievably atrocious

Horrifingly terrible computer virus unleashed on Internet Image 1

Having Windows slow down to a slug's crawl sucks. Losing your hard drive is heart breaking.

But I've never heard of a virus as vicious as this one! Watch out. It looks like it's real.

I could describe it for you, but I might as well just quote from the horse's mouth -- in this case, a guy name Monotoko reports on this virus in the forums at battleon.com:

"Well, i was surfing the net at college yesterday on my laptop, im allowed to use it in lessons to take notes etc.
I shut it down after my free period and went to physics, switched my laptop on, and upon startup it started some EXTREEMLY annoying music

I looked at it, tried to put some headphones in (sadly my headphons jack appears to no longer be working) and my sound panel is blanked out, so i cant control the volume (MUTE IT!)
eventually i gave in that physics lesson and just used pen and paper.

so i got home and tried to mess about a bit with it, it appears to have a strange virus.
It plays "Miley Cyrus - See You Again" upon startup, each and every time, and just repeats at full volume, it wont accept headphones (just sees them as not there and continues to play)

I found miley.exe as a process, and im assuming thats what controlling it, but when i close it, its just reopens itself and starts playing again"

Do virus makers have any sense of shame? Doesn't even the most deplorable of code crafters have any sense of dignity, or remorse? Do they know no boundaries at all?

If you are on the Internet, be careful! Somewhere out there this virus lurks.

Oh the humanity ! When will the Internet lords deliver us from this great evil? Have they abandonded us in our direst hour !

Miley Cyrus!

"Cant find anything....if i had some storage media id be backing stuff up and reinstalling windows right now -.-

ARGH its killing me -.- "

Hopefully people learn to actually filter incoming wireless traffic instead of just sitting there wide open for someone to pick them off.

Being responsible about a network interface applies to anyone not just windows users. Only fools just go "oh thank goodness I'm on linux/os2/osx/dos/etc"

Sounds like a clueless soul that got it anyway, safe mode, edit out the file from regedit, check msconfig and skim for any process that might regenerate it.

Joking aside, this virus is really weak-sauce, as viruses go. All you have to do is search your computer for "miley" and erase any files that turn up...after finding ear plugs.

    It's a wonder it wasn't Rick Astley.

Fortunately I think it runs a second process to protect miley. It was a good way to screw with people a few years ago.

Honestly I wish it would have went the whole 9 yards with theme alteration and wallpaper. Nothing says owned like pastel pink. haha

Oh man -- plays Miley and uses a pink and flowery theme for your Windows. That would have to be the funniest virus of all time.

Ya you know, I'm sort of surprised now that no one made a Rick+Roll virus.

I know right. That's pretty much its own virus on youtube. I'm surprised they don't take them down.

I also wonder why it wasn't a RickRoll virus >_>

I wouldn't be surprised if there is one out there like this. Or if the person who did this Miley virus has done, or will do, a Rick Roll version >_>

I wonder if this is a joke though >_> Seems a bit unlikely....Possible though.

VeGiTAX2 I'm not some fool who goes around with my wireless unlocked or go without Anti-Virus or a firewall.

It'd be nice to know where exactly the guy was surfing, either the virus is completely random, or its possible to isolate a source.

If there is a single source, it'd be nice to know so it could be avoided.

I think the biggest thing they did with Rick Astley was using Last Measure along with his infamous song. At the time that was pretty much what a Rick Roll was at the time, a browser flooded with prompts stopping you from closing it normally.

I think links still float around for it but it doesn't come off nearly as funny as the Miley bit since they have to navigate to the page.

NathanFido, exactly, and yet if someone was doing that on any other operating system they would be fine as well. The point being that no matter what OS this guy used he was still going to be vulnerable because of his behavior. People all too often just go "lulz thats why I use (insert operating system here)" and others follow into it like lemmings thinking they found some magic haven.

No, no it does not. Her evil spreads rapidly and causes much death, chaos, and destruction. Sort of like the black death.

sorry Mono but I ain't touching anything that mentions Battleon now XD

Hah got to give virus makers some credit...this one is here to annoy, not destroy.

I also think the rick roll has worn off, so virus makers are looking for something else
