IGN edits Fallout 3 review to remove mention of "major issue" bug found in PS3 version
Guess they didn't want to trash the PS3 version too much
It is fairly uncommon for a review of a game to be edited after its publication without any notification being made of these edits.
Such was the case today in IGN's review of Fallout 3. They chopped up a paragraph fairly well, without stating their reasoning for doing so. Could it have been a complaint from someone from Bethesda that caused the truncation of the paragraph? Or was it merely because the details in the original review were inaccurate?
We are not sure. Here is the original paragraph from the review, and then the replacement paragraph:
Before"Fallout 3 is such an engaging and fantastic experience that it's easy to overlook its few minor flaws, but they do exist and should be mentioned. With any game of this size and scope, you can likely expect a few bugs to slip through the testing process and that is the case here. I had the game crash a couple times. I, and other editors at IGN, have also experienced an annoying number of bugs on the PS3 version that have prevented the game from progressing or have broken the world. In all of these cases, reloading the game has been enough to fix the errors and nothing was frustrating or detrimental enough to give me thought of not recommending the game. However, there is one major issue with the PS3 version that can't be fixed with a reset. Every time anybody on your friends list signs on or sends you a message (or any time you receive any network notification), the game freezes and the screen blurs for a few seconds. If you have a lot of friends signing on and off all day, this will completely ruin the game. The only way to circumvent this is to either play offline or turn off notifications entirely."
After: "Fallout 3 is such an engaging and fantastic experience that it's easy to overlook its few minor flaws, but they do exist and should be mentioned. With any game of this size and scope, you can likely expect a few bugs to slip through the testing process and that is the case here. I had the game crash a couple times, amongst other small bugs. In all of these cases, reloading the game has been enough to fix the errors and nothing was frustrating or detrimental enough to make me not recommend the game."

I have been playing the PS3 version for a couple of days now and have not run into any of the above mentioned bugs.
i don´t go online much though so looks like fallout 3 is back on the menu!
Look up any big label game and you'll see tons of results about how it's bug ridden. You find what you look for. Don't be so narrow scoped. Look at the entire picture. It runs fine for me on 360 and PC. Maybe not on the ps3, but that is not bethesda's fault. This is sony's for having such a range of different hardware in the wild. Not all ps3's are created equal. Newer models have some of the original hardware features emulated on the Cell processors now. Sony will be issueing a system update to address these issues.
If you mean I find legit reviews when I look, yea that used to be true. I never trust any type of review anymore, from anyone. There's waay too much money flying around now. Metacritic is the easiest to sort through the trash just by score comparison. When one reviewer gives a game a 90 and another a 50, there's something wrong there. There's something horribly wrong with the game industry in general but I guess its going to take a major market correction before dicks like EA learn anything about customer loyalty and satisfaction [spore haha!]. Valve and the like are islands in a shit storm. If your reading this, take sides now. Vote with your wallet. Down with sleazy marketing scumbags and up with serious developers.
