Hm, maybe the error they cut was remedied? If not, man that's sleazy!

Ya it doesn't seem right -- editing the review itself isn't a problem I'd say, but they should make official mention of the reason they chose to remove the description of the bug.

These reviews from everywhere lately, including IGN, have started to sound more and more like advertisements instead of critical reviews. The average game on IGN must get an 8/10. I've stopped going to review sites recently because all they do is hype games and take payments for advertisements.

That's why I only really use Metacritic for reviews..I figure it's the easiest/best option overall..the only alternative really is investigating sites..making sure they're independent and aren't taking payments for reviews..which can be nigh impossible.

With that said..I find IGN generally has a really in-depth style of reviewing which I enjoy..it would be a shame if this was tainted, though not at all unexpected.

I think part of the problem with reviews not being accurate is how many hours of gameplay it takes before you can really put a number on a game.

I'm guessing most pro game reviewers just don't have enough time to be able to put enough hours into games to be able to make a really good judgment, so a lot of them get swept up by the hype.

Any game that has a big buzz to it seems to be practically guaranteed an average rating over 8/10.

Like GTA IV for instance. The game has a ---98 / 100 --- average metacritic rating, which is crazy. I haven't played the game, so I can't say whether this accurate, but I personally haven't talked to a single gamer that has LOVED the game, at like 98/100 levels.

Practically all the gamers I've talked to who played GTA IV said it was really good for the first few days then the game sort of lost their interest because of the mission structure and a couple of annoyances. I haven't talked to a single dude whose even finished the game...

Yeah, another huge factor, for sure. It's probably just best to check out previews of the game some, play the demo if there is one and/or rent the game, and make your own judgments..

Agreed on the hype thing too, certainly seems to be that way..I've heard the same thing about GTA IV.

Why does it seem all the horrible awful bugs show up on the PS3? This really confuses me.

Game companies are probably rushed into releasing the game, instead of waiting and making revisions to the game to make it as perfect as it can be. I'm not completely sure as to why game companies are rushed these days though.

Cause it costs a bajillion dollars to make a game..and anything new/innovative is generally seen as a risk they don't like to take..if rushing it means more money in the end, many companies will do that, sadly..thankfully some see it the way a lot of us do..that is, quality game=more sales long-term.

Valve and Blizzard seem to be good examples of companies who don't rush their games. The result is a game being released like a year later but I don't mind because I know its almost always high quality.

Indeed Mr.Monkey, valve are a paragon of good development practice. Now EA on the other hand...
