YouTube plans to sell games through Amazon.com

Bringing the internet together as one big, happy family

YouTube plans to sell games through Amazon.com Image 1

YouTube has struck a deal with American online retailer Amazon.com in a move to increase revenues and create new advertising formats.

Links to Amazon.com's video game selection will soon begin appearing on YouTube, as well as links to the retail site and iTunes for music.  EA Maxis' Spore will be one of the first games to get a link in this new advertisement campaign between the two internet giants.

In addition to games and music, YouTube hopes to eventually expand into movies, TV show, books, concert tickets, and other media-related products via related video clips on the site.

"There'll be lots of different solutions for lots of different problems," said Shishir Mehrotra, YouTube's director of product management.  "We've tested a lot of things already, and we're going to be testing more in the future. Some will work, some won't."

Well I was hoping to beat YouTube to the punch on making an announcement. I have been developing this on my site http://NowScene.com. It seemed only logical for YouTube which is now becoming the place for artists to get exposure, to incorporate links for people to purchase MP3s. I show a link to Amazon next to every live music video I display. Works pretty well. But because the video title also contains location information. I inform my customers to click the link then remove any extra text from the artist information for better results. But I will make improvements in the future.

More power to YouTube's success with this. I certainly believe in the concept since I developed this too. More improvements in the future since this the site is still early stage. But I wanted it documented that I did this first before YouTube made their announcement today.
