Sony shows off .3 mm flexible 11-inch OLED display
Lydia Sung - Friday, October 3rd, 2008 | 2:28PM (PT)

Sneak peek at CEATEC Japan 2008

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2007, Sony's OLED screens blew us all away.  Now, they've done it again by simply outdoing themselves.

At this year's Combined Exhibition of Technologies in Japan, Sony unveiled their latest project: an OLED of miniscule proportions.  Just as flexible as its predecessor, this 11-inch display seen at CEATEC 2008 is a mind-boggling .3 mm in width.  You read right -- it's thinner than that lunch meat in your sandwich.

This wonder of Sony ingenuity isn't hitting retail shelves any time soon, but it's definitely an exciting implication of things to come, as well as a reminder of why we love technology.

Yeah, I saw that 11-inch OLED display in Sony's Show in Sydney Convention Centre last year, it was really mind-blowing display considering its thin design and crystal-clear colour. Needless to say, I like it so much. It will also cost us an arm and a leg. Sony also said that it won't come to Australian shore until 2010. I also hope those OLED displays will replace the current Plasma and LCD displays in the future. My ambition in 2010-2012 is to connect that display with my PS3, to watch the CG from the MGS4 and Final Fantasy, to make the most of it, Hee Hee.

Wow. Thats almost too thin. Soomething that small could easily get lost, or slide into a crack somewhere.

That would be great for laptop screens though, that would take some of the thickness out.

I'd be more worried about breaking it, though the fact it is flexible makes that less likely.

But look at how dark the dark parts are....Such good conrast for something a fraction of a millimeter thick >_> But I can see that, since it is so thin, there is less of a viewing angle (you can see through it in the first shot). But straight on, or at a sharper angle, it is solid looking.
