Here comes Shanghai!
Digitimes reports that server manufacturers have been informed by AMD that it plans to move forward the launch of Shanghai based socket F (1207 pin) server processors to mid-October this year (from January next year).
Apparently AMD will initially offer nine processors, with clock speeds ranging from 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz. Five of the processors will be meant for dual socket systems, and four will be positioned for four socket motherboards. The new Opterons will have 6MB of L2 cache, and will still use DDR2 memory, and will apparently only support HT 1.0, with HT 3.0 parts following in Q2/09 accompanied by a new SR5600 server chipset.
Three two-socket and two eight-socket 55W TDP "low voltage" parts will be launched in Feb/09 along with one 105W TDP high end part for two and eight socket motherboards.
