Nintendo Wii still on top
Last week we reported that the Xbox 360 had beaten out both the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 in Japan due to well-timed price cuts and the release of Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery. Sales jumped from 843 to 28,681 in a week's time, and most predicted that this spike in sales would not last.
True, the number of Xbox 360's sold this week has dropped by 14,000; however, the sales remain above those of Sony's PlayStation 3. PS3 sales have remained stable at 8,156 units, but the Xbox 360 remains ahead with 13,777 units.
The Wii, however, is now on top yet again with 29,686 units sold, surpassed only by the Nintendo DS, which stands at a whopping 61,242 thanks to the popularity of Pokemon Platinum. The Sony PSP sits just below the Wii at 28,674 after a drop of 1,500 units.
In the top 50 games sold, 22 of them were for the DS, nine for the Wii, seven for the PSP, six for the PlayStation 2, and three each for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
