Obama favored by Xbox LIVE users

LIVE poll shows Obama favored over McCain

Microsoft issued a recent press release with results from an Xbox LIVE presidential poll in which 100,000 users participated.  Barack Obama appears to be enjoying a 12 percent lead over his opponent John McCain, with smaller percentages in the "unknown" categories.

The poll is not foolproof, and Microsoft acknowledges this; however, the partnership between XBL and Rock the Vote has certainly yielded interesting if not positive results.  Rock the Vote and LIVE managed to draw out quite a turnout, and the press release notes the impressive show of political engagement in the LIVE community:

In its first two weeks of the program, more than 55,000 voter registration forms were downloaded through Xbox LIVE and xbox.com. Additionally, videos from the recent Democratic and Republican conventions were downloaded nearly 25,000 times.

To-date, the Xbox LIVE community has downloaded more than 350,000 pieces of program-specific content, ranging from candidate gamerpics to videos and Rock the Vote logos. That’s nearly five times the amount of people present at Barack Obama’s acceptance speech during the Democratic Convention in Denver.

If you're still curious about the voting results for that XBL poll, here are the exact figures:

  • Obama \ Biden:  43%
  • McCain \ Palin:  31%
  • Undecided:  13%
  • Other:  13%

And how many who took the poll were old enough to vote? For all we know, most of those who went for McCain or Obama were 13 or 15 year olds who listen to their parents and agree with them. Rather than making their own damned choice.

Not really surprising. Polls have showed that Obama is very popular with the younger voters, but most weren't registered. Now that you can register using LIVE, of course a big portion of those will choose him.

Oh god, the little educated 13 year olds on LIVE voted for Obama. Good to know what our future voters are gonna be like.

XBL Users!!! So in other words, normal people? I don't see how being an XBL User sets you apart from normal society. You're still just a person.

It doesn't, really. But statistics has a habit of grouping "normal society" into various smaller demographics for its own purposes. In this case, XBL users might reflect on the younger demographic, such as voters in their twenties.

I'm glad to hear that gamers in the United States support presidential candidates, but in Australia, most of the politicians are out of touch with gamers, really pitiful for Aussie politicians. Conversely, most of the gamers also hate politicans in Australia.
